How can home educated children get GCSE access arrangements?

How do we get extra time and separate room in private GCSEs?

I’ve read that a SENCo has to complete an assessment to apply but ds is home educated so we don’t have a SENCO? Can we access this any other way it doesn’t seem to be an option to apply to the exam boards for the access arrangements any other route and i can’t find any info online ?

@clary with your concern about the potential for candidates to have a phone in a drawer, do the speaking exams not require a second device showing the wider room? The other remote invigilation exams do?

Tech/internet issues (either at an individual level or on a widespread scale) were one of my concerns. Along with the cost, not everyone having access to the equipment/tech needed, remote invigilation not being possible for some types of EAA, rest breaks being possible but candidates needing to stay in view of the device, and potential issues around toilet breaks.

Depends on your situation. No SENCo here but the hospital gave the extra time paperwork.

My daughter is home educated. She is in Year 6 and not doing the SATS but the hospital still gave all the paperwork for 25% extra time. She has been diagnosed with epilepsy.

My DD is home educated and is doing exams as a private candidate at an independent school.

We gave the school co ordinator all her documents (community paeds report and ed psych report) annoyingly they could not accept her dyslexia report as it was issued privately.

She got small room and 25% extra time on the basis of her anxiety and sensory issues. The school is in Northampton if any use to you they’ve been brilliant,

Yes, I invigilate in a private school, we have a few homeschooled candidates, some have access arrangements. As long as the evidence is presented to the Senco and the exams officer in plenty of time it can be done.

@scoopofmintchocchipicecream we were shown the room on camera but no second camera. It would be hard to cheat (and as I say, I was happy they didnt) but easier than if the candidate were in the room.

Thanks @clary, that’s interesting.
