Do you lime

lavenderscenteddrawerliners · 11/05/2026 16:16

I know this is quite 80s and perhaps a thing of the past, but I'm in a private rental and the kitchen cupboards are all lined with lino. I initially thought it was a bit odd, but it's all cut really well so not in any way bothersome. I took it up to check as I'm moving soon and underneath is perfect, the kitchen is probably 25+ years. I'm thinking ahead to when I moved, it's a new build so a new kitchen and would like to line the cupboards with something to protect them. Any ideas? I don't want to use lino as I assume it's difficult to cut.

I never lime, I don’t agree with it.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 11/05/2026 20:39

Only when I put the lime in the coconut and drink 'em both up

Owly11 · 11/05/2026 20:50

I thought it was going to be about lime washing your walls. But I am glad I opened the thread anyway as I didn't know some people lined their kitchen cupboards. Not a bad idea!

I use the Ikea dotted non slip stuff. Colourful wall paper works well too, for a lively look.
I always line drawers now.

I had my kitchen deep cleaned after a refurb, and the cleaner was very impressed with how immaculate the white interiors were <smug>.

Ah I thought it was going to be a thread about Lime Bikes @lavenderscenteddrawerliners - as in the borisbike-like ebike hire things. I listened to a really interesting podcast about them recently https://open.spotify.com/episode/1oRf2US0Fulw4xO67saNy1 about how dangerous they are, and totally unregulated in terms of their design which is pretty much guaranteed to mean cyclist gets way more badly injured than they would have on a normal bike.

No I don't. I have a solid wood kitchen and I think people do it to protect those, but I don't see the point of having nice solid wood cupboards and shelves just to cover them up in something cheap.

What is the point of stain free, immaculate drawers if all you ever get to look at is a scrap of lino.

beasmithwentworth · 11/05/2026 22:40

Yes another one who presumed the bikes. And yes I do but agreed they are way too heavy. Anyway, as you were OP

Ciri · 11/05/2026 22:40

Yes mine are all lined with pretty wallpaper. It’s really durable so lasts ages

Universe25 · 11/05/2026 22:42

I don’t do it no. Wish I did. Just had leaking honey in one!

Anyway yes mum and all my school friend’s mums did. I’m Scottish and was born in the 60’s.

Shoemadlady · 11/05/2026 22:43

IKEA sell a type of liner you can use, it’s great. Cut to size and easy to clean!

AbundantFlowers · 11/05/2026 22:47

I lime, and salt too 🍸

I love the idea that this could have been about the Caribbean. Apologies for putting a dampener on things 🍋 (not technically a lime, I know). @ClayPotaLot by any chance could you put a link for that please? I want to have good intentions to keep the new fridge clean.

I last bought a roll before COVID (and haven't used it all!). The exact product I bought is no longer available, but I found it by searching for Kitchen Shelf Liner or the like and just bought the first one that had plenty of good reviews. This (and many others on there) is similar:

I was given scented drawer lining paper once, which I lined my sock drawer with, while marvelling that it a) existed and b) someone bought it. Also why did they think I'd want it?

I have lined the top of the kitchen cupboards with lining paper (the sort you use on walls), because it's easier to chuck that in the recycling than dust that high up.

Glitchymn1 · Yesterday 02:24

🍋‍🟩No, just wipe the cupboards…. I too thought it was going to be about lime. I bought lime juice the other day….

MarxistMags · Yesterday 02:32

I do this with leftover vinyl/lino. Easy to do and doesn't need stuck down. I also put old newspaper on the top of the high kitchen cupboards.
I'm Scottish by the way !

corblimeygvnr · Yesterday 03:55

The clear plastic bubble liner is your answer.

FantasyFoodhall · Yesterday 04:12

Oh I was expecting a rather niche thread about repointing! But yes, I do line chest of drawers and clothes cupboards with wallpaper. My Mum
does and I just did the same although not sure why, now I think about it.

I use scented drawer liners of course, who doesn’t? 😮 but I don’t line cupboards

Thank you all for the suggestions and apologies again for getting anyone's hopes up.

My overflow cupboards are wood, even painted it gets ruined..my last house 1930s I had a walk in larder, always lined, yes, pretty oil cloth (Dunelm) I have a hall cupboard, which had been made over hand painted design by a professional had really pretty wallpaper in the drawers.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · Today 10:06

It was probably in the 60s, but I once read advice to new wives to say that you should ‘line all your drawers with fresh paper every week’. 😂

PrincessofWells · Today 10:10

I line my kitchen cupboards on my boat with wallpaper because they're wood and because it looks nice 😃

😮💡

I line wooden drawers but not the more modern wipe clean laminate shelving/drawers. Wooden ones are a bugger to clean.

I don't lime at all. Or lemon (unless it's Shrove Tuesday).

archofrose · Today 11:34

Ikea does a roll of thick plastic which you cut to size and put in the shelves. It works to keep the shelf clean, you just wash it in the sink.
