When did you last have blood tests to check for any causes of tiredness? Anaemia, thyroid, Vit D deficiency, meno? I wouldn't start taking vitamins till I knew if there was a deficiency firstly.

Myheadisgoingtoexplodeagain · 10/05/2026 18:47

I agree eith @7238SM. OP do you take anything already?

Fullofpudding · 10/05/2026 18:49

Gone through the menopause and definitely not anaemic. Thyroid is also fine. I don’t take any other daily vitamins or supplements

A general A to Z vitamin won't do you any harm and may help. But I agree with PP about bloods.

You should be taking a vitamin D supplement from Oct to Mar. Might as well start now as you're bound to be depleted and, possibly with shift work, not seeing much sun still.

Vitamin D

Find out about vitamin D, including what it does, how much you need, and how to ensure you get enough.

Urinary frequency, especially getting up several times in the night for a wee is very common with genitourinary syndrome of menopause/vaginal atrophy. Would suggest seeing your doctor to discuss topical estrogen. This can be started any time from menopause onwards, even into your 70s and 80s and is a long-term, low-dose, safe treatment
Menopause can cause tiredness. Your doctor can do tests to rule out any other causes like nutrients deficient. Buying vitamins to take unnecessarily (except for vitamin D which we should all take during the winter months) just results in expensive wee.

I've had all the tests and take all the vitamins. I'm still tired all the time.

You have two of the common symptoms for type 2 diabetes. (Spoiler alert: you can have type 2 diabetes without any symptoms - like me!)

Fullofpudding · 10/05/2026 18:58

I’m also freezing all the time but doctor says my thyroid is fine. I’ve had it checked twice over the past couple of years.

I’ve been checked for diabetes too. I think it’s probably my shift work (I’m a nurse) that’s causing it and my lack of sleep due to my husbands snoring 😴

Vaginal estrogen cream or pessary, for genito urinary syndrome of menopause - can help you not need to get up in the night to wee, amongst other wonders. Ask your gp

Magnesium is the golden ticket for me sleep wise. I sleep way better with it and it seems to reduce general anxiety a bit too. I know it’s doing something as it gives me WILD dreams!

Then you will very probably be deficient in vitamin D. Everyone in the UK is advised to take vitamin D.

tiramisugelato · 10/05/2026 19:53

Everyone in the UK should be taking Vitamin D.

AlasIsUnderused · 10/05/2026 19:55

Get ferritin checked. Take vit D. Vaginal oestrogen as PP said. Consider HRT (I slept better and don’t get up in the night any more but was also more tired overall … but it fixed joint pain so I stick with it; everyone responds differently.) I love my acupressure mat (cheaper Amazon version); has done wonders in calming me down so I sleep more deeply- I take it with me when I travel for work! Sleep in a different room and on your own if possible; at least sometimes. Earplugs /eye masks if you can tolerate them. And, take a 20 minute break once a day. Properly. And move your body a bit if you don’t already. Avoid eating sugar and simple carbs on their own X

Floradix (iron), vit D and a multi vit

magicpotion2026 · 10/05/2026 20:16

Vitamin D and vaginal oestrogen

You are a shift worker with a snoring husband. You don’t need vitamins (though yes, everyone should be taking vitamin D). You need better sleep. Can you look to move away from shift work towards something more sociable? Can you sleep separately from your husband? No way in hell I’d be sharing a bed with someone who interrupts my sleep. Sleep is absolutely crucial to your health.

I’m a nurse. I only do day shifts now. Unless I divorce my husband or get rid of the kids I have nowhere else to sleep!
