Years ago a kind mumsneter recommended Balance app to me for tracking periods. Unfortunately they have mucked about with the format and I really don't like using this app now. Can anyone recommend a good app for tracking periods that's free to use.

Two quick responses for Flo sounds promising. Thanks both will check the Flo app out just now.

Just read that Flo settled out of court in 2025/2026 for £56 million as they were allegedly selling peoples health data to Meta and Google. Flo denied selling any data. I went to look at the Flo app and read about this.

I use clue - I pay for it now but the free option is good. I just started paying as I wanted more information.

YourKonstantine · 09/05/2026 16:52

I use flo.

Yourangduckie · 09/05/2026 16:54

@mrstea301 interested in what information the paid version provides.

@chipsandpeas have a Samsung phone wonder if they have a health section.

Will look at the new recommendations. I did download Flo, the terms and conditions worried me as they stated they would track you on Tiktok and other places on the Internet.

I liked the look of cycle so have downloaded that too try out the free version and also found Samsung health that I never knew existed trying that out also, I like that Samsung is free and predicts my next cycle. Thanks for the help much appreciated, will see how I get on with using them both and then pick the one I like best.

I use one called Privacy. It is v basic but all data stays on your phone and there is no advertising. And it is free.

Yourangduckie · 09/05/2026 23:11

@parietal thanks for your recommendation but I couldn't find that app.

I did find a few news articles from last year basically saying the same as this BBC article about these cycle apps selling data. It's suggested in this article that the NHS should bring out a app for tracking womens cycles, I don't think that would work tbh. I downloaded the NHS calorie counting app today and it's shockingly bad compared to many others. If nothing else today has made me stop and really think about who is selling my information and making a lot of moneyfrom it, I do use a lot of apps day to day so I suppose it's a bit late for me to do anything about it now. I suspect in the future (I hope) these things will have much tighter regulations in place. Just musings really if anyone else is interested.

I use Drip: https://dripapp.org/

It's non-commercial (so free), open source, none of your information is stored on the cloud, there are no annoying articles or promotions pushed on you, and it's not garishly pink and flowery - but it still has all the options for detailed period and fertility tracking.

Highly recommend!!

You can also check and try Siela, it's a mobile app. It’s free, local-only, and keeps cycle data on your phone, so it may fit if privacy matters.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 12/05/2026 20:34

Yeah, flo
