I use an spf designed for the face instead of moisturiser. It’s probably Nivea. Moisturiser and spf is too much in summer.

I switch between Ultrasun anti-pigmentation SPF 50 and some Korean products. Ultrasun is a good all-in-one, the Korean stuff is separate moisturiser and SPF, but depending on your skin type, you may not need both, as the spf is good as a light day cream, too. I like Beauty of Joseon as a brand, and they have several formulations. They also do solid sticks which go over makeup for SPF top ups during the day.

Lidl. Seriously! The face cream in the purple packaging is a dupe for La Prairie, which I'd never heard of . They also have an argan oil range (gold packaging) but even their standard face cream is among the best on the market and gets rave reviews. It's rich without being greasy.
SIL has stopped buying Elizabeth Arden and switched to Aldi, which is a tenth of the price for exactly same ingredients. If you Google you'll find which one it is. Also gets excellent reviews.

@BranleuseI recognise your name - have you been around MN from the beginning, perchance? The days of Riven and Pagwatch etc?

I have but name change frequently. Dd is 25yo now which shows how long I’ve been here. 😀

Moisturiser is deigned to skin in and nurture the skin. SPF is designed to sit on top as a barrier, hence far more effective to do separately. Please don’t use the home bargains one, it’s not great.

I like the L’Oréal range of moisturisers which come in a range of 0/30/50 spf. I use them daily and the only time I’ve had a problem was sitting in the sun one afternoon and ended up with a bright red nose BUT I had a hay fever attack so probably wiped it off.
This one is currently on offer in Boots

I just use an SPF, you don’t need a moisturiser as well.

ohyesido · 09/05/2026 20:13

Snail gel cream from Holland and Barrett except no spf

Overtheatlantic · 09/05/2026 20:24

I use Heliocare spf 50 with a tint. Very nourishing and was great on a recent trip to Rome.

I got this in home bargains last week and it's lovely. They had the serum too

This is amazing.
My daughters also prefer this to their usual facial suncream.

I’ve not used the factor 59 in this but I have the 30 and it’s very good.

L'Oréal SPF 50 serum. Amazing and effective. Can use it as a base for makeup too

Highonmyownsupply · 09/05/2026 21:18

Me too. It could pass for something much more expensive.

I got a No7 miniature Future Renew cream in an advent calendar, which has SPF in it. I really like it and am considering buying full size when I've used it up 😀

Is it this one?

I love it. I find that a lot of face creams just sit on my skin and make it feel greasy, but this one doesn't.

Ashb20040 · 09/05/2026 21:39

Rituals do a great spf moisturiser in the skincare range!
The whole range is lovely to be honest!

ForPinkDuck · 09/05/2026 21:59

I do think doubling up on 2x products is a faf op.
I think im gonna experiment just using spf in the day and moisturiser at night.

Bert2e · 09/05/2026 22:01

Aveeno SPF 50 is good. And Simple SPF 30 in the winter.

Nivea SUN UV Face Anti-Age Q10 Cream SPF 50 (50ml) is good and lots of people use it instead of moisturiser under foundation.

This. Cheap and cheerful but it works for me.

aintnothinbutagstring · 09/05/2026 22:08

I use nivea sensitive day cream - it is very cheap but only spf 15. It doesn't ball when I put makeup on and doesnt mess with my skin barrier. I have tried more expensive creams but always come back to this and my skin always looks clearest when I use it.

juicelooseabootthishoose · 09/05/2026 22:31

Im really enjoying the Trinny SPF50 moisturizer and have recommended

SabrinaThwaite · 09/05/2026 22:49

I use the Aldi Rejuvernate day cream with SPF 30 every day. I top up with SPF 50 sun screen when the UV index goes up.

Isabella40 · 09/05/2026 23:07

I love the Superdrug vitamin e range. Used to use vitamin e range from body shop but Superdrug much cheaper.

Before Christmas my face was extremely dry. I now use face serum/eye cream/day cream/ hot cloth cleanser and night cream. Seen a big improvement in my skin. It’s really reasonable and always appears to be on offer. I also like the face mask too.

ambre solaire super uv antiage spf 50 £9 fragrance free is the only thing I use during the day time. You won’t need a separate moisturiser as it’s very moisturising
