Huel - interested in experiences or alternatives

I'm interested in Huel as a meal replacement for breakfast. My main goal is weight loss but I'm also interested in improving my protein intake so may switch between the ready made shakes.

I'm interested in feedback on the taste, which ones you recommend and how they worked for you.

If you watch the documentary on Channel 4 made by Joe Wicks and Dr Chris Van Tulleken you will never consume this sort of fake food again.

There are loads of high protein yoghurt / pudding/ mousse products out now, would one of them be just as filling , less calories, and nicer ? I am loving them at the moment

Yes possibly but I haven't really seen any!

Also my Huel drinks are coming on Tuesday (the day I was going to first try it at work) and not today...

Arla protein yoghurts = 20g per pot
Lindals lemon cheesecake protein yoghurts are lovely = 18g per pot
Get Pro are much nicer (not quite as thick) = 15g per pot

We get through a lot of protein yoghurts in this house!

I get the black edition chocolate powder. I mix with water but to more of a smooth porridge consistency and eat it with a spoon. I've eaten hugely for years and find that it does keep me fuller for longer than other breakfasts like porridge.

Safarisagoody · 09/05/2026 16:34

I really rate Huel ready to drink black, I often have one for lunch, I only like chocolate or chocolate peanut butter, I don’t like tne other flavours. They have to be proper chilled. I don’t like tne powder at all.

i also like the protein bars, very tasty, has one this morning, chocolate caramel

not tried the meals, considering them though for lunches when I’m busy,

Chocolattcoffeecup · 09/05/2026 18:08

Thanks @MrsClattenburg Do they fill you up?

Glad you like them. Sounds promising @EducatingArti @Safarisagoody I'm looking at the ready to drink ones so I can't just take one in my bag to work but sounds like I'll need to put it in the fridge!

I'll look at the protein bars too

If you do decide you like it and want a discount, I think I can send you a "friend recommendation" code if you pm me an email address

I tried Huel but didn’t like them at all, they taste of artificial sweeteners. I switched to My Protein, the flavour is much nicer and they even do an unflavoured which can be added to yoghurt or anything really. But I understand that maybe not quite what you’re looking for.

Chocolattcoffeecup · 09/05/2026 20:13

@msmillicentcat Is myprotein a meal replacement or just a protein shake?

OP posts:
msmillicentcat · 09/05/2026 20:50

I think it’s more of a protein shake, that’s what I was using it for anyway.

ridingfreely · 09/05/2026 21:04

I find them very convenient for office days and the do keep me full, I haven’t lost any weight from them. The diet version is a lot thinner so it doesn’t keep me full for as long but the black edition is a very good meal replacement

Theolittle · 09/05/2026 21:12

I’ve had the same idea and just bought myself a variety pack (black edition)

it doesn’t mix brilliantly and best to do a blend, but I’ve enjoyed the three flavours I’ve had so far.

I’m skipping brekkie to get a decent fast, drinking fruit tea and black coffee in the morning, then huel for lunch - it lasts a bit longer than just lunch and does fill me up more than I thought it would. Then I gave a big tea with chicken/fish and veggies and lentil dal or lentil salad. I needed a change from my normal attempts at cutting calories and I’m liking it so far

Hoppity80 · 09/05/2026 21:17

I really like them in the week when I get home late from work. It stops me snacking on DC food as i cook and means indon’t have to think about cooking something healthy for me or overeatting. I have lost a bit of weight on them - they keep me full for ages but their strength is more that they make it harder to gain

I use Huel as a quick meal replacement. I stick to basic flavours; chocolate, vanilla and berry. I find these the most palatable, and buy the Black edition ones which have a higher protein content. I have one niggle with the bottles. The cap unscrews but stays attached to the bottle. The inside of the cap is coated in Huel that drips, generally all over my nice clean work shirt. Just to add, the shakes do taste nicer if chilled but not a deal breaker.

Edited

I’ve just bought a pack and the lid comes off so maybe they’ve listened to feedback!

Was just about to say this. Huel is the UPF of UPFs. Also recommend Dr VT’s book, Ultra Processed People.
