Car Insurance when renting in Spain!

Anyone rented a car abroad (Spain) from Avis? Do I pay their insurance at £25 a day or do I get insurance at cover4rentals ( best according to Which) at £15 for the week?

Years since I hired a car.
I recommend the gold package with insurance. Locals target hire cars, so remove the hire car sticker.
I had a few accidents so found out that insurance is absolutely required and the best one you can get

Insurance policies offered by the rental firm generally have gaps in cover AND are more expensive.

Online specialists will usually offer the best cover and at a cheaper price to boot.

Which? does a deep dive on the policy wording to see what policies cover and any exclusions, so your best bet is probably to go with Cover4Rentals as it's a Best Buy policy - something not awarded lightly.

If ever in doubt, get up the policy documents for both policies you're considering and compare them side by side. Use 'control f' to search for any key words or things you would personally hope to be covered.

Check cover for misfuelling, tyres, windscreen damage, personal contents, key cover, drop off charges etc and the overall claim limit per day.

For comparison the Avis Inclusive policy gets a score of 51% with W?. Windscreen cover, key cover and personal belongings is for example is an optional extra, and you're not covered for curtailment, misfuelling or drop off charges. Unconfirmed value of cover for towing.

we got told by a friend if you dont take their cover they will likely try and pin the slightest little mark on you and your own cover. probably little marks that have been there before you got the car if you dont check it carefully.

dont know what companies do this it ive always been scared of it as id have to pay an excess.

Thanks everyone! DH said to get company insurance as it’s an emotional journey and it’s one less thing to think about. Of course it’s with Avis!
thank you all, I’ll know for next time!

I have used drivalia before ( when I had a bit more mojo) and separate insurance, and they were great.
they only take credit cards and guess who lost hers?! Youch!
