Suggestions for what to do in London tomorrow morning please?

Staying with friends this weekend in London, going tonight. They live in Islington (to give you an idea of where we will be based). Our friends are busy tomorrow morning, so dh and I will be doing our own thing until we meet them back at their house late afternoon. No idea what we should do though that will keep us busy for a few hours without too much travelling around. Don’t really want to do museums as I don’t want to spend all morning queuing to get in somewhere. A bit of shopping would be ok, prefer quirky /independent type shops, somewhere nice for coffee (perhaps with a view?) would be lovely. Don’t mind a bit of walking preferably in an interesting/pretty area. Would love suggestions please.

Upper Street in Islington is great for shopping- lots of independent shops. I could easily while away a morning there!

There are absolutely loads of museums and galleries in central London where you wouldn't need to queue! It's really only the massive ones like the National Gallery, British Museum, or the Natural History Museum which get very crowded.

I doubt you'd have to queue to get into any museum/ gallery? If I were you, I'd head to the Barbican and have a wander around there (it's easily walkable or bussable from Islington). Or get bus down to St Pauls and walk across to Tate Modern. Or go to Hampstead/ Hampstead Heath

Walk along the Regent's canal. It's really interesting in both directions and easy to find (just off Upper Street). East takes you to Haggerston/ Shoreditch. Depending on how energetic you're feeling you could go as far as Victoria Park. Heading west takes you into the heart of the development behind Kings Cross - Coal's Drop Yard. Loads of shops, interesting architecture. Abundant food/ coffee places. You can always jump on a bus back to Islington if you're too tired for the walk back.

The Museum of the Home is within walking distance from Islington, free to enter and generally no queues. Kings Cross and Coal Drops Yard also walkable… but as others have said you could easily spend a day around Upper Street & Camden Passage. Recommend Ottolenghi for lunch (although can be busy) or Kipferl for cake and coffee 😋

Gosh lots of great suggestions! Drawing up a little list now, I’m looking forward to it!

If the route is easy from where you are I would walk the canal and then explore Coal Drops Yard / Granary sq. I like lunch or coffee in Lina Stores

Its so quick to pop to anywhere on the Victoria or Northern Line if you fancy more traditional sightseeing : walk along the S Bank from London Bridge, through Borough Market, past the Globe, over the Millenium bridge to St Paul’s if you feel energetic, on to Tate Modern (free, no queue usually, just a quick queue for bag check) , from where you can get brilliant views from the top floors in the turbine building.

Tube back from Blackfriars

Go up chapel market in Islington and find the canal path to King's Cross. Its an interesting place to go for a few hours
