Would you expect to pay for this?

Car went in for a service to a main dealer 4 weeks ago. On the day of the service we had a call to say they had crashed it. They offered us a hire car to use til they fixed it. The car is 5 years old roughly and we have had it from new, bought from this main dealer. Anyway later that week they realised the damage was worse than they thought and it had to go somewhere else to be fixed.

all fine. We hung on to the hire car.

now they are insisting we pay for the service. To be clear I have paid. But I am gobsmacked they haven’t not only paid for this one but also offered a free service at least next year.

still haven’t got the car back btw…..

just curious to know how other people would be calibrating it.

Thank you everyone. I feel the consensus is to pay for the service then to approach and to see if compensation might be paid. It’s all paid so now I can move on to see if anything further might happen. It probably won’t but I can but try. It just feels like poor customer service and I won’t be going there again.

So sorry about your Dad OP, I lost my Dad recently and know how grief can throw you off course. Hope you get a good resolution with head office, I always mark for the attention of the MD. And sorry you had an unnecessarily hard time on this thread 💐.

Please tell your insurance company or they might deny future claims ( look at their t&cs)

I'm really sorry to hear about your Dad 🤗 when my Dad died it changed me, it affected me a lot & I still miss him so much 😥 so be kind to yourself (& try to ignore the not very nice posts!)

your use of calibrate is a little off in this context, but it was perfectly obvious what you meant 🌷

id have been thoroughly fucked off at being chased for the payment for the service ESPECIALLY when they still had my car!

I would have expected them to write that off, for starters, AND some other 'good will'

Yes, they're busy places, with lots of moving cars, but a WALL wasn't going anywhere.

Definitely contact your insurance company, but your premium will still go up next year, so I'd be wanted compensation for that too!

Absolutely definitely contact HO they need to know their dealership is a) incompetent & b) treating customers like this!

🤗

Op I can’t believe people are still going on about your use of calibrate ffs! Jeez it’s bloody obvious what you mean and some posters are being particularly obtuse and annoying over it. Please ignore those people and just reply to those who actually want to help you with your question rather than ridiculous pedantic nonsense xxx

Not a chance I would be paying.
