At what age did your children first go on holiday with friends?

Where did you or your DC go? And how old were they?

My DS had very nerdy and introverted school friends so they never went anywhere.

With some uni friends a few years ago he had his first friendship holiday to Edinburgh. They absolutely had a smashing time.

In Jan he went a short EU trip with a friend and they had lovely time site seeing and made some memories. They had a jolly good night out as well.

DD went camping about 4 hours from us after GCSEs, so her /her friends were aged 15 and 16. Then she went abroad to Europe by herself in the summer holiday after Y12, so they were 16/17.

He had a weekend away at 18, then covid hit so much bigger plans were pulled. He then went away at 20, he is currently on a big group holiday, there are 9 of them in America but he is 25 now. He has been overseas with who he is dating 3 times between 2022 and now.

16 to Athens with his geeky classics friends. They had an amazing time.

Do you want to know/have met the friends beforehand?

DS is going in July, end of 6th form, he will still only be 17. They have been to Leeds festival on their own from 16. And camping fairly locally.

I was probably 21 (although I had a BF from 18 who I used go away with).

DD went away with her friend's family at the age of eight, and we took the other girl away at the age of nine (in all fairness both us Mums are part of the same friendship group so we could relax a bit more over it). DD moved away at 16 (scholarship to another school) and from then onwards she'd go and stay with her friends, visited one abroad when she was 17. Third year of uni (age 21) was abroad). Obviously I had my concerns, but she's very savvy, works transport and problems out herself and won't go off with anyone she doesn't know.
