Did this just start suddenly today?

have you used any new products? Has you been out in the sun for a long time yesterday? Hope the antihistamines kick in soon and you get some relief.

KatyMac · 02/05/2026 09:33

Yes, over night - woke about 5 with it

I have a lot of allergies anyway

Nothing new at all - I'm pretty careful

Thank the Good Lord for anti-histamine tablets, I say. The Doc prescribed me one a day for 30 days a bit since, but I wasn't itching all over. Keep taking one daily until you get more help. I've been outside, gardening, having first annointed myself with the anti-insect wipe. You have all my sympathy. New bra? New metal fastenings against your skin? Anything.

Try to keep cool.
If its unbearable, go to urgent care. They might be able to give you something stronger.

Huge sympathies. I’m experiencing a bout of chronic spontaneous urticaria and am filled to the gunnels with antihistamines. GP has said I’m able to take quadruple the daily dose of Loratadine but I’m still a swollen, itchy mess.

May you get some respite as the day progresses!

KatyMac · 02/05/2026 13:36

I msy combine the over the counter fexofenadine with another antihistamine as its better but not great

I have been trialling a daily 180 fexofenadine for a couple of months and I ranbout because my brain fog forgot to remind me to reorder

One day without shows I needed it I reckon

I wish I knew which allergy it is, its so frustrating

@KatyMacI’ve recently tried Fexofenadine and it did not touch the sides. Same boat as you, no idea what triggers it. I hope you feel better soon!

APinkAndSpottyGiraffey · 02/05/2026 16:20

I find cool showers help a little, not hot or cold, just warm. Hope you feel better op 💐

HeyHowdyHey · 02/05/2026 19:20

The gp said a dermatologist would prescribe up to 4 180mg of fexafenadine per day so that’s what she did while I was waiting for the referral when I had a similar issue although I did also have a rash in some places. It did help a bit so you could definitely try at least a double dose and see if you have any more relief.

KatyMac · 02/05/2026 19:33

Im doing 2 x 120 fexofenadine while I wait for my prescription - DH ran out to get them for me

Is it worth ordering some Cetraben to alleviate some of the itching? You can get it on Amazon.

Try a mix of Loratadine and Cetirizene. I'm nearly at the end of a course of antibiotics for cellulitis. Between the antibiotics and the healing skin the itching is driving me insane. I'm taking everything known to mankind.

Despite that I'm utterly miserable. The weird mix helps during the day, not so much at night though.

As a regular sufferer of urticaria I think it's really underestimated by the medical profession.

unless you've experienced that constant bloody fucking itch that can travel from your toes to your ears in milliseconds, so you never ever get a moment's peace, then you just cannot imagine the hell of it.

my deepest sympathy opening poster.

I found a daily dose of fexofenadine, E45 bath oil only in the shower kept the worst of the itch at bay.

If I do get a recurrent area of itching (as long as it's small) copious amounts of sudocreme tends to keep it from spreading .

Oooh, thanks for the tip. How do you take them, do you alternate them?

Alternate them. The dermatologist shrugged and told me that I couldn't overdose!

GoldbergVariations · 02/05/2026 21:19

I started itching terribly recently, with really sore, dry skin. ( My skin's always been good). I finally remembered my mother had problems with sugar in later life. I stopped eating anything sugary and it literally went within 48 hours. I now really control my sugar intake (not that I ate loads before).

Just in case that helps someone - the difference was incredible.

KatyMac · 02/05/2026 23:10

Oh i eat far too much sugar

But im pretty scared of creams and lotions as im horribly allergic to them, aqueous cream, sudocrem, anything I use for more than a day or so

HotGazpacho · 03/05/2026 14:19

@GoldbergVariations That tracks actually, as the second flare up I had followed me eating a not inconsiderable amount of chocolate. 😬

How are you feeling today, @katymac?

Crikeyalmighty · 03/05/2026 14:22

I honestly think spring is the worst for this - I get this every April and May - I used to get bad hay fever as a child but it went away around 18 but back with a vengeance post 55 but manifests as chronic itching and sore eyes

It’s really common to react to aqueous cream and e45 OP. They are often recommended becuase they are cheap. Something like epaderm, aveeno or moogoo might suit you better (if it’s a dry skin type itch), but it’s very much trial and error to find something that helps.

Also what laundry detergent do you use? I use a minimal amount of a powder for sensitive skin. Liquids and pods are a no go

KatyMac · 03/05/2026 20:34

I've tried aveeno and some other but somewhere between day 2 and day 3 I get a rash and/or blisters

I use a bio powder and not too much

No soap, very carefully rinse shampoo/conditioner away from my body

No make up, jewellery, sun cream

I've been better today I guess I just went a day within antihistamine and it hit hard

KatyMac · 09/05/2026 15:58

This has continued all week - im back of prescription strength and im taking extra

It's very annoying
