Would you go to this appointment?

I had a small medical procedure three months ago, which I paid for privately because the GP didn't "think" the NHS would treat it, and it was causing me a lot of pain. He said he'd refer me to MSK to see if they would help, but I expected to wait a very long time only to be told they couldn't help.

It was affecting my whole life and sleep, so I'm glad I had it done then, but the surgeon told me there's a high risk of recurrance within 6-12 weeks. She basically gave me the entry level (affordable) minor procedure and advised it might need an operation if it recurrs. From my research, I think that's standard and the NHS would have done the same, if they'd done anything.

I didn't tell GP I'd had it done, thinking I needed to stay in the system for if it came back, and expecting it to be years before I heard anything anyway.

I have an apointment for next week. It is starting to retun in that you can see visible signs, but it's much smaller than it was and not causing pain.

If it goes the way it did before, within 3 months I'll be in agony.

So, do I go along and see what they say - any actual treatment could be far down the line anyway, or do I tell them I no longer need the appointment?

Fwiw the condition has no health impact, except for the pain leading to reduced mobility and lack of sleep.

Well if it's coming back then it sounds like you do need the appointment? I'd go and explain what you've had done so far so that you can hopefully skip to the next stage.

Did the private surgeon not send a letter to your GP to inform them of your treatment for your medical records?

Anyway go to the apt and explain your past treatment and what the surgeon advised you should it reoccur. In all likelihood they'll invite you back in a few months time to reassess and put you on the list for further treatment at that point. But stay in the NHS system now you're in it!
