Puddle Curtains?

Yes or no?

I like the idea of them but would they be a pain in the arse to rearrange every time you open and close them?

PITA, I knew someone that ended up making a template for theirs so they can fan them evenly

TheyGrewUp · 30/04/2026 22:18

Yes - and the dog/cat would sit on them.

Yes. I have them in my bedroom. Had them for years. I love how they look.

I've just been hanging some new curtains and never heard of piddling curtains, will take a look now

Edit: no sorry, not for me. Looks like someone took the measurements too low. I like a nicely fitted curtain that is easy to maintain. Each to their own

Grabity · 30/04/2026 22:22

No. But I can’t do artful arrangements. My effort at throws looked like a discarded bath towel.

These days I recognise my limits and content myself with admiring the pictures on Pinterest

Thanks for your replies. 😁

Looking for a cheap (free) revamp as I can't afford new curtains at the moment. The ones I've got have some pleats and was considering letting them down to make puddle curtains.

Absolutely awful.
I've never seen any that don't look like the curtains have been made to the wrong length. Plus they gather dust and bits from the door. Just hem the curtains to the right length.

RedRiverShore6 · 30/04/2026 22:35

Wouldn't you have to shift them when you vacuum. I would probably manage to somehow trip on them.

Justusethebloodyphone · 30/04/2026 22:40

Piddle curtains if you have a dog.

But I had some left behind by the owners of our house. What a pain in the arse. I ended up tying them up and eventually just taking scissors to them because we had toddlers and a dog and they caused mayhem. It was a huge window and I had to wait 3 or 4 years before we could afford to replace.

ExquisitelyDressed · 30/04/2026 22:41

No, they look untidy and impractical. As if the wrong size had been ordered by mistake and you couldn't get a refund or take them up.

Koulibiak · 30/04/2026 22:48

Curtains should just kiss the floor - sitting a couple mm above. Puddle curtains need a very specific type of decor, one that requires serious commitment to New Romantic/gothic style. They are unsuitable in most houses.

Don’t get me started on curtains that are just window long and finish 2 feet from the floor. Those are even worse.

honeylulu · 30/04/2026 22:50

God no they look stupid, like you couldn't measure properly and they ended up dibbling on the floor in error. Every time you draw them they'd be dragging dust and bits across the floor. Yuck.

Elanol · 30/04/2026 22:51

No pets to worry about but I do have a very hungry hoover that might be a problem if I got too close. 😂

I think floor length, skimming the carpet is probably a more elegant look. I might still take out the pleats in the existing curtains to change them up a bit but also take them up.

Thanks for your suggestions ❤

Puddle curtains sounds like a euphemism from Viz magazine!

Alwaysthesameoldstory · 30/04/2026 23:38

Never ever heard of them.
I just googled them.
How absolutely ridiculous! Just why?

Yellowpapersun · 30/04/2026 23:41

I didn't realise puddle curtains were meant to be like that. I always assumed people couldn't be bothered to shorten them to the right length.

LoserWinner · 30/04/2026 23:57

Huh! They just look like too long curtains that nobody can be arsed to take up.
