Tactical voting to keep out the Greens

On my facebook feed I keep getting stuff coming up on local community pages showing me that the only way in my small city to keep out Reform is to vote for the Greens.

They show a graph that shows Reform in the lead, with the Greens very closely behind, then trailing way behind that is Labour, with the Conservatives barely registering at the bottom.

I am a natural but disillusioned Tory. I might well have voted Reform anyway, with a sense of sadness and bewilderment that it's come to this, but in the belief that a drastic change is what's needed right now and Reform are the only people brave enough to deliver it.

However, thanks to the Greens and their little graph, I've just realised that a vote for the Tory candidate in my area is a complete and utter waste of time anyway. I absolutely must vote Reform simply to keep the lunatics out. My city is full of lefty academics and alternative types at the best of times and has always been a Labour stronghold, but while Labour are sinking like a brick, it looks like my city has gone full-on 'Green, Trans Rights, No borders, Eat The Rich, Queers for Palestine' mental.

Even if I wanted to vote Labour I daren't. I'd still have to vote Reform just to keep the Greens out. No fewer than FOUR of the wards in my area have trans identified men as Green candidates. One of them is only 19 and leads with the information that they are autistic and like cats. WTAF can they possibly know about how to run a local government? And because they are in a ward with lots of students they stand a chance of winning. It's terrifying.

I am forever grateful to the Green party for bringing me round to the need for tactical voting. I shall definitely be doing that, just not in quite the way they hoped.

@Stirabout I know ... but I cannt vote for Reform or the Tories, I just can't, for all sorts of other reasons.

I think it's like the situation when voting for Labour during/after the 2nd Iraq war: "hold your nose and vote Labour for the greater good."

It's not ideal, but we are where we are, and I'm sick of purity spirals.

There are many women whom I admire who will say that, in spite of everything, the value & benefit to the nation is greater.

I don’t think Labour are better for the nation

it’s not just their views on women
thats just the final nail in the coffin I’m afraid

But as women make up more than half the population and are more likely as a sex to vote for the rights of others over and above their own I will keep standing up for women.

so that’s that on the head I’m afraid

You've given me some points to think about @Stirabout

Hobsn's choice, eh Grin

That's an oxymoron if ever I read one 😂
Reform are the lunatics 😁

100% this. I'd vote for almost anything to keep Reform out.

I'm in exactly the same position OP. Polling in my area (according to the Green Party leaflet I've had through my door) has Greens on 32% and Reform on 33%. Labour and Tories are nowhere near.
I think I'm going to hold my nose and vote Reform 😣

It’s a greens leaflet
Theres a reason Theyve put those figures in
Id check all polls before you believe that

Ineverdidmind · Today 11:53

Well yes it's a greens leaflet trying to persuade me to vote green, but having the opposite effect. Are you saying they want me to vote Reform?? @Stirabout
Anyway I have seen the same polling for my area from more than one source, it's legit that it's a two horse race here. Green or Reform 🤦‍♀️

WheretheFishesareFrightening · Today 12:08

Also a natural but reluctant Tory here.

I’ll be voting Tory.

The local Green policies are much more coherent than the local Reform policies and so I’d rather a Green council than a Reform council (who are still talking about reducing immigration when a council has no capability to influence that).

I would assess differently for general elections, but are you sure you need to keep Green out locally? (I accept the that they can do a lot of gender related damage locally, but my candidates seem relatively sensible on this).

MsJinks · Today 12:29

It is local council - Greens in councils can’t open borders and leave NATO. Reform also put up young, useless candidates that need removing shortly after.

I leaflet against Reform, but not for a party - some wards are fairly equally split between Reform, Greens, Labour - this suggests they want more left leaning in the ward overall, but probably will end up with right as a minority in that place want as Reform takes all right leaning votes. That’s just an example, but with this and with tactical voting I think many results just are going to be skewed.

Locally I have always voted for who I think is the best candidate equipped to actually help run the council - barring certain politics and I’ve always drawn the line at say UKIP myself - honestly, it’s not hard to draw the line at the Reform candidate in my ward so I won’t have that internal debate - but for the first time locally I would vote tactically to keep the number of Reform councillors as low as possible.

My relatives live in a reform led council - and whilst neither Tories nor Labour were great at running it this last year has been a real low point.

No, they're trying to tell you that voting labour or conservative would be a waste of a vote and that your choice is between green and reform. They are banking on people voting for green as the better of those two choices. Check the polls yourself and don't believe anything printed on a leaflet by any party.

No
definitely not Reform
i don’t know what I’d do in your situation
