Could you cut someone's toe nails?

Gardenimp · Today 12:08

My BF has the opposite of a foot fetish. He really hates feet. I've never seen anything like it. I feel fairly ambivilent about feet. I wouldn't go out of my way to touch anyone's foot, but would do what needs doing to help most people. In fact I did trim BF's nail when we were on holiday, a sharp edge was causing some bleeding on the adajcent toe and we didn't really have the correct implement, so it was awkard for him to do. I didn't love or hate it, it was just something that needed doing to solve a problem.

My Dad has just called because he needs his toe nails trimming. He's old and immobile and what he was actually asking was if I'm available to give him a lift to the chiropodist. BF thought he was asking me to do it and absoultely completely horrified. The only reason I wouldn't is because of Dad's condition, it's important not to get it wrong.

Yes I know we could find a mobile chirpodist. That's a battle for another day 🤣

Only my children's toenails.

TFImBackIn · Today 12:20

I've done it for my very elderly mum. I just think how I'd want to be cared for at that age and just chat to her while I'm doing it.

MarxistMags · Today 12:23

When my kids were babies I used to get my Mum to come round and cut their nails! !

Endofyear · Today 12:27

Yes I would but I'm not bothered by feet. For your elderly dad though, I would definitely take him to the podiatrist. Elderly people's toenails can be very thick and difficult to cut correctly and the podiatrist will have all the right tools. They're also good at spotting any problems, like ingrowing toenails, fungal infections and signs of poor circulation etc

AgnesMcDoo · Today 12:29

My children yes
Anyone else no

ParadiseIsNoBunker · Today 12:29

I too did it for my dying mother.

DramaAlpaca · Today 12:30

I used to do the kids' when they were little of course, but I wouldn't choose to cut another adult's toenails tbh. I'm not even keen on doing someone else's fingernails.

My DH isn't the least bit squeamish. He'd have no problem cutting mine if necessary, and he happily did my elderly DM's fingernails for her when I couldn't. Fortunately DM & DF have found a mobile chiropodist to look after their toenails.

catin8oot5 · Today 12:30

I had to cut my friends lately as she had a double hip transplant. Made me gag but I did it because I love her.

PygmyOwl · Today 12:30

I've done it for my MIL who has had a stroke. No big deal.

Bunnyofhope · Today 12:30

I've done it for elderly dps. I hated it and we are off to the chiropodist next time.

AnxiousSquid · Today 12:31

I would do it for anyone with healthy and clean feet. I wouldn’t do it if they needed trimming for medical reasons or their feet were gross for some reason.

DustyMaiden · Today 12:32

Start caring for a relative with dementia. You will be amazed at what you can do. You think you can’t but then it needs doing.

GoldMoon · Today 12:33

That's the one thing I couldn't do to my elderly mother .
I could brush her false teeth with them in my hand . Clean her up after a poo accident and wash her nether regions but cut toenails ? Nope.

This is so true.

Also true of people needing care who don't have dementia, I find.

annonymousse · Today 12:38

My family all have this foot hatred but I've been elected as eldest surviving daughter to be mums toe nail cutter. I do it because I love her and she can't do it herself. DH has recently had a hip replacement. I couldn't do his. I think male feet are worse. 🤢

Meadowfinch · Today 12:39

I've cut my dc's toenails and my mum's toenails when she was old.

Not sure I could do a total stranger's feet.

I had to do my mum's last week. I just hope someone nice will do mine when I'm that age.

PauliesWalnuts · Today 12:41

I could literally cut anyone's toenails (and have done for my grandma and my mum and dad when they had terminal cancer). But as a childless person I'd draw the line at changing a pooey nappy. Horses for courses isn't it?

Alwaysthesameoldstory · Today 12:41

I cut my mothers toe nails when she was dying of cancer. And obviously cut my DS's when he was young.

I don't like my feet - I've aconstant battle with a fungal big nail on my left foot and my right food is spread so it's much broader than the left due to a spiral fracture injury many years ago. So I tend to notice people's feet and I admire attractive ones. And im ashamed to say I feel a bit reassured if I spot any unattractive ones , though that isnt very often.

PacificState · Today 12:42

I do it for my elderly dad. Doesn’t bother me at all. I don’t really get why people are upset about feet (I’m one of those annoying people who wears open toed shoes between April and October)

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · Today 12:44

Yeah, feet don’t bother me.

Topseyt123 · Today 12:50

I'm not squeamish about feet but I do hate cutting someone else's toenails because I am so scared of getting it wrong and hurting them.

I do it very occasionally for my 90 year old mother if I am visiting (she lives a few hours away from me and isn't able to do her own now) but it still makes me nervous. I believe my sister also does it occasionally at different times so it does get done just about enough.

I do clip or file my own toenails every few weeks to stop them cutting into the other toes but I still hate doing it. Yes, I am clumsy and have clipped myself occasionally so I am a real chicken about it now.

I like to go to a chiropodist/podiatrist two or three times a year to get them done properly.
