Can I post something nice about London

I’m here for work reasons on tube strike day so have needed to use a fair bit of buses - at changing at Hammersmith smiling TFL staff stood by the bus map asking me where I needed to get to and telling me exactly which buses I needed and where to stand - I’m 64 now and to be honest despite the bustle I could live back in London with the proviso of only in a nice leafy ish area with shops and facilities, free transport too and lots to do for free. I do appreciate it’s not for everyone but I personally can still appreciate it -

Oh, I adored every minute of my ten years living there, even the black snot and rush hour on the Piccadilly Line. I love that DS took his first steps in the Turbine Hall of Tate Modern, and that you could buy excellent baklava, really good tomatoes and fifteen types of olives at 3 am two steps from our flat, if you wanted them, and the way people mostly not having their own gardens meant that the local park was a collective dinner picnic in summer.

And I always found people pretty decent in giving me a seat on the tube when pregnant and helping me with a pushchair on steps.

I love London. I’ve lived in NY and Paris and London is the best. I currently live in leafy zone 3 but plan to move to zone 2 in a couple years. I want to look out my window and see the cafe I can go to for brunch, be five minutes from the tube, and have a perch for people watching. My neighbours have all been friendly, the architecture is beautiful, so much culture and the parks can’t be beat. On a sunny day like today it’s glorious.

It is- it’s also pretty clean in the areas I’ve been today, I live in Bath so have decent standards of what’s ok, it’s def a lot cleaner in the areas I’ve been in London today than most of Bristol - I think the key to enjoying it here in all honesty is having an open mind , living somewhere that isn’t that transient, not feeling you have to go to the west end all the time, having enough money to get by pretty ok and a few decent friendships. For me I like having a few reasonable hospitals within relatively easy reach as I don’t drive( my H does) - several airports easily accessible, lots of public transport, a wide range of nice cafes, high end and greasy spoon, a few old style pubs and a few nice funky wine bars too , free fun stuff and markets, flower stalls, lots of trees, easy access to things like Borough market or nice butchers/supermarkets . I do have a fair bit of this where I am , but we do spend a lot on business overnighters, petrol as our business head office is in Chiswick, parking at Heathrow, to be honest money wise for us as we rent a nice house there would be not that much in it factoring in the other things- Am staying just off high st Ken tonight and on a day like today even though it’s busy and noisy and a lot of buses with the cherry blossom etc it’s a real spirit lifter. We used to live in Richmond/Kingston area and I am tempted to rethink it 10 years on. Must admit the free transport ( both over60) would be good as would like to use the car a bit less. Maybe I’m a rarity in thinking London actually has a fair bit going for it in your 60s and still working - I’m not one for pottering round the garden etc, would rather be going out to something or shopping for nice food etc

Thank you @Crikeyalmighty. We lived in a lovely bit of zone 2 for 35 years. Loved every minute. Don't live far now and we still go.up for work.

London is bloody marvellous. It can be maddening too of course, but I've lived here for 24 years and couldn't imagine leaving ❤️

I moved to London over 30 years ago and can't imagine living anywhere else.

I grew up in Yorkshire and thought racism was a normal daily occurrence..Then I moved to London and realised it wasn't normal everywhere.

I think one reason I posted was I see so many negative posts- but I personally think as it’s the biggest city in Europe it’s bound to have certain issues- but Theresa lit of good to be found, especially if people get out the west end or central London to the areas on the edges
