Tell me how awful your thermomix is please

A very lovely lady is trying a very hard sell with her thermomix appliance. It doesn't appeal to me in the first place and I wouldn't spend that money on an appliance even if it did. This woman needs the money and I'm starting to soften a bit to the idea, checked online and every review on every forum is raving about theirs Hmm.
Tell me how it's overpriced and collecting dust in the back of your cupboard, and how it's just an MLM.

I'm reading that some have four or five 🤣

I don't have a Thermomix, but I have 3 friends who do and rave about them. I am trying hard not to listen, as I really don't need more appliances!

Brooklyn70 · 22/04/2026 22:53

i use it every day and i don’t even make many of the recipes available.

but i make at a minimum: tomato sauce, bechamel, boil eggs, bolognese sauce and broccoli and stilton soup, every week. yummiest mashed potatoes too!

They're a massive con, just like every other pyramid scheme. No one needs a £1000 cooker. It's an extra thing to clean in your kitchen.

Rinse and put in the dishwasher - very easy to clean!

I want one :(

devildeepbluesea · Yesterday 07:19

My friends lent me theirs in an effort to sell it as they were getting another one. I didn’t use it once. I like to see my cooking, be proactive.

Me too. To make bread and pizza dough.

I just assume theyre dodgy because of their selling process.

If it was that good you would just source it forma. Shop and not have local mums doing demos and hard sell on fb groups and calling it their 'job'.

GU24Mum · Yesterday 07:26

We’ve got one as a friend raved about it. I hardly use it and wouldn’t get another one. There’s nothing wrong with it but it doesn’t really suit how I cook (when I do….)

Hermiaxx · Yesterday 07:43

I use mine everyday (and have been known to take with me whenever possible!). I’m planning on replacing immediately if it ever dies (no sign yet after 12 hard working years!)

Withinthewhirlwind · Yesterday 07:46

They are amazing! But, in my opinion, they suit two types of cook:

if you are inexperienced and lack confidence they are great with guided recipes and take any uncertainty out of cooking.

if you are a serious cook, then they are fabulous for “helping” (they are thought of as an extra chef in professional kitchens) eg they will make a bechamel sauce without you having to stand and stir, ditto a risotto, grate Parmesan in an instant, and many many other things.

if you are inexperienced between these extremes, they are still great, but much more of a luxury, especially if already have various kitchen equipment (if you don’t, then probably worth considering)

midwalker · Yesterday 07:47

It depends on how you cook and whether you use a lot of appliances generally. I don’t use them much, but a woman who is one of the best cooks I know uses her Thermomix all the time. She loves it.

Hermiaxx · Yesterday 07:47

It is so easy to clean too (basically cleans itself!).

anourishingsoup · Yesterday 07:56

Not the replies I was hoping for! I thought it would have been a PITA to clean? Also is it programmed? I was reading something about blue tooth chips for recipes?

I bought the Lidl monsieur cuisine dupe. I’m a good from scratch cook but I’m hardly using it!

WHAT do people cook in it?

Myskyscolour · Yesterday 08:05

Expensive but mine is still going strong after 15y!! I was a but put out by the way it is sold but as it was recommended by MIL I thought why not.
I use it mostly for soups, sauces and baking.

jerkchicken · Yesterday 08:11

I use mine almost every day and now couldn’t do without it. It’s totally changed the quality of our meals - love being able to make things at home that I used to buy (all kinds of breads, pizza dough, pasta sauces, desserts, naan bread etc) and introduced me to lots of new dishes too.

minipie · Yesterday 08:12

Yes I’d like to know what you’re using it for please.

Soups and sauces seem to get mentioned a lot but I’m not sure how it’s easier than making it in a big pan with a stick blender? I think it can’t roast things from what I’ve read, so if I want roast veg in my soup or sauce I’d still have to do the roasting separately?

I’ve seen bolognese mentioned, again how is this easier? Think I’d still need to brown the meat separately- and then I’d lose the fond if I transfer to the thermomix after that.

Making doughs and batters sounds helpful but I’m trying to eat less bready things not more 😆

I may be misunderstanding how it works though

Clefable · Yesterday 08:13

What’s it like for making standard family sort of meals? How much time does it save? I already can make my own pizza dough and stuff in my bread maker, so the value for me would be making a range of home-cooked meals quickly and more easily than currently rather than using it to make dough, pasta, etc.

Hermiaxx · Yesterday 08:34

I agree with @jerkchicken-

I am now able to make my own stock cubes, bone broth, sauces, chutneys, curries, breads, sorry but the list is endless! It’s more than paid for itself and means we have been able to get rid of UPFs from our diet - if I could afford it I know I would happily buy another in the kitchen. The soups aren’t bad either (and very different in both taste and texture!). The main bonus for me is how quick and easy it is to use with very little time or effort required on my part!

it was love at first sight for me but it clearly may not be for everyone!

AyeupDuck · Yesterday 08:39

Is it a food processor that also heats up? never heard of them and sounds a bit of a boring way to cook. I was raised helping in the family restaurant so know how to cook.

you don’t brown the meat separately for the bolognese/nacho meat.

you literally do everything in the pot, one step after another, and it stirs it for you, leaving a wonderful consistency, and you can leave it and forget about it, it won’t burn.

for the veggie soups, you do minimal chopping, if any, on your board, it chops everything for you too and then, again, just follow steps and once it’s done, it blends it for you too.

there are many videos on youtube where you’re shown each step.

Isn’t that just cooking? How does the thermomix make it different?
