A friend and her daughter are coming to pet sit our 2 cats and 2 guinea pigs during the summer holidays for a fortnight.
They will have the use of a nice house and garden in a pleasant location (Cotswolds). All electricity, mod cons etc.
My question is, how many "extras" should I leave out for them? I mean things like -
Tea bags and coffee capsules
Loo rolls
Dishwasher tablets etc etc
I don't want to appear mean, but ........

I think it depends on how much rent she's charging them. If it's mates rates, then I think wifi off, market rate, leave it on.

There is no rent it isn't an air b&b

In what world is Loo roll an 'extra'? It's the definition of a 'basic' 😂

A mangle and a carpet beater?

😂

FiveShelties · Yesterday 09:59

I would definitely not bother leaving loo rolls @Georgiepud just leave lots of lovely new white towels.

Since forever I always thought the phrase "payment in kind" was sexy time !

Everything you've suggested, plus a fully stocked fridge/freezer, plus leave a couple of hundred quid in cash for takeaways and incidentals. And thank them profusely for giving up 2 weeks of their time to do you such a huge favour.

The ‘in kind’ bit is you don’t pay for the sitting. They don’t pay for the equivalent of Airbnb rent.

The extras should be what gives everyone a warm
fuzzy feeling to give and receive.

The last Airbnb I went to left tea bags, coffee, loo roll (of bleeding course) but also biscuits, pats of butter (the ones you get in cafe/hotels), milk, cans of soft drinks, bottled water, couple of bottles of beer. I gave an excellent review.

These are your friends and they’re giving you a service that would otherwise cost you money and potential stress (if cats don’t like cattery etc.)

OP will be putting the power on a timer and telling them to bring extra jumpers for heat!

ImDoneOnceAndForAll2 · Yesterday 17:59

So wanna know what the mod cons are that you talk about...

But i imagine the OP wont be back and this thread will be deleted because its causing the OP distress irl

Wow OP.. have you offered to give them any money at all? We have a house sitter who comes to our very lovely house in Cornwall which is five minutes from a beach with its own hot tub and orchard. We still pay her the going rate of £70 a day or £490 a week to look after one cat and one small dog that has 2 x 20 mins stroll a day. This is cheap.
I still do a shop, fill the fridge with meals to keep her going for at least the first three days, leave chocolates and wine and a nice tin of biscuits.
It has not crossed my mind to ration loo roll or dishwasher tablets?!
They are doing you a huge favour and saving you over £1000. I’d certainly be leaving a Marks & Spencer‘s voucher or something else or value in a card along with a full fridge.

Everything they’d need for 2 weeks as well as a nice hamper full of snacks, nice drinks, treats as a thank you.

This has got to be a wind up, surely?
