Where does everyone stay in London nowadays when coming from EU?

If you are going to be in London for a couple of days for work purposes or for a family event, and haven’t a huge budget, where do you stay?

Do you stay near the Chunnel exit and go up to London by train every day?

Or are there any budget hotels in London that are clean and basic but safe?

I am a female in my sixties so don’t want to stay anywhere too dodgy or too full of youngsters partying!

Thanks in advance for any advice or info!

I always stay in a Premier Inn. A hub room is ideal for 1 or 2 people who are looking for a basic , no frills experience. Prices can vary though.

Poppingby · 22/04/2026 13:05

Are you driving? Cos parking will be as much as a hotel if so. But there are plenty of cheapish hotels that are fine. Where are you visiting, and when?

MissAmbrosia · 22/04/2026 13:05

Premier Inn at Kings Cross - 3 mins walk from St Pancras and the Eurostar - is my normal go to. Close to Underground and direct bus to e.g. South Bank.

MasterBeth · 22/04/2026 13:11

Don't stay near the tunnel! That's hours away from London!

Where exactly will you be visiting? London's a big place.

Thank you - this isn’t far to one of the places I am visiting and is a good starting point - appreciate the advice!

We haven’t decided yet! Hence the thought about staying near Folkestone or somewhere nearby and commuting in and out every day.

St Pancras
Balham
Crystal Palace or Norwood really
And a central hotel for tea (yet to be chosen)

I’ll start with looking up Premier Inns thank you.

I wonder if an Air BnB would be better for a four-day stay though? Save on eating out every day?

I would defo get train for London

Any premier inn on the tube line - example if you flew to Stansted you could stay in Tottenham Hale - as Stansted express goes there and you are at the Victoria line 🤷‍♀️ area not very exciting but it doesn’t matter as you won’t be staying around there it’s just a base

Trains from Kent are ridiculous expensive, I would look at outer London boroughs maybe.

Bromley has a direct train line to Victoria in 20 minutes direct or 40 with stops and there is a Premier Inn opposite the station and a Waitrose next to it.

LIZS · 23/04/2026 08:02

do you mean the tunnel(Folkestone) or Eurostar terminal (London St Pancras)? There are Premier Inns in London but the more central ones can be pricey if convenient for sightseeing. What do you hope to see at those places?

That’s a good tip! Thanks very much for it.

I’m not coming to London to see the sights; I’m coming to visit specific people. Therefore I’m trying to decide whether to come by car in the Shuttle and park near Folkestone area and commute in every day off peak, or arrive at St Pancs by Eurostar and stay more centrally. Well, I was interested to see if the latter is possible nowadays on a reasonable budget.

We use it too. It's fine and location is good.

Come by shuttle and drive to Bromley and park for free/small cost there. Ditto Crystal Palace or Norwood. You can get into central London very easily, quickly (about 20 minutes or so in the train) and cheaply from any of those places and to your other places too. It’s an hours drive from Folkestone to Bromley for example. There are Premier Inns all over. A self contained air b n b will cost more but you’ll be able to cook. You use your contactless card on the trains and buses so no faffing about getting tickets.

This is great thank you! Just the sort of information I was after!

That’s two recommendations for Bromley now!
