Could you do your job if you had diarrhoea 4-5 times during your shift? (Not caused due to a food poisoning or a bug)

That’s all really. Could you do your job if you had urgent diarrhoea 4-5 times during an 8 hour shift?

I wfh, no calls or meetings and I manage my own schedule so there is no issue with toilet access and time. However, on the occasions when I have been suffering with Mounjaro side effects, my concentration has been shot. Diarrhoea is painful and draining. I couldn't get a decent day's work done while experiencing it.

I’m a nurse and I did a night shift ‘in charge’ with antibiotic related diarrhoea (the antibiotics were due to a dental abscess, so nothing contagious). It was horrible but doable, but only because it was a night shift; there was no way that I could have coped during the day. To answer your question, it very much depends on your job. Anything frontline isn’t really going to let you function with that level of bowel urgency tbh.

I have endo on my bowel so often have situations like this, it’s difficult when I have meetings/training to deliver but have no choice really

Yes, but I've made career choices that allow it.

I also take preventative immodium on days when we have events, and I need to be present. When that doesn't work (it usually does), my manager is understanding.

Just trying to think of the worst jobs to have if suffering from diarrhoea and so far I have;

Deep sea diver
Asstronaut
Steeplejack
Olivia Newton in those stitches up trousers

I assume "asstronaut" was intentional? 😁

Yes this has been my life for the last 25 years with IBS. Not every day but at least once a week along with severe pain also. Just have to get on with it!

UniquePinkSwan · Yesterday 08:12

No. I work in a very physical job. I’d take Imodium first to see if that helped though

AreYouSureAskedNaomi · Yesterday 08:18

No, I had a bug earlier this week and there were many toilet visits - for an hour or so I just couldn't leave the loo until several doses of imodium kicked in.

Also I had a 4th degree tear and the possibility of soiling is real.

The bug has passed now but I am still shattered and not functioning 100% even though my job is desk-based.

As a one off, yes. Every day, no.
