Would you eat this chicken?

EdinaMonsoonsWardrobe · 20/04/2026 19:38

Bought a couple of months ago but changed mind about eating it on the day so chucked it in the freezer (two chicken breasts).

Took it out of the freezer Saturday late afternoon and popped it in the fridge to defrost... put it in the slow cooker at 6pm today with a bunch of other fresh ingredients.

Yay or nay?

why not?

Cerialkiller · 20/04/2026 19:41

Yes I think that's fine assuming you have a decently cold fridge. I think mines only 1 degree. A slow cooker will ensure it's at the correct temperature for a good time so no chance of undercooling.

Of course

I just wouldn't risk it but then I wouldn't freeze chicken. I put a higher price on my health then I do for the inconvenience of getting ill.

I also have a thing with milk, I only drink it if there are at least 2 clear days for the best before

Why wouldn't you freeze chicken?

Don't trust it

Whattodo1610 · 20/04/2026 22:07

Yes, that’s a perfectly normal way to store/use chicken.

Workinggreen · 20/04/2026 22:11

Depends what it’s texture and smell was like, I’d normally cook it the day after I took it out the freezer so I’d be a bit wary

I was wondering that.
I've got plenty of chicken in my freezer.

OP - I dont understand the query, whats the issue here?

@EdinaMonsoonsWardrobe
What is the problem with eating this food?
Yes, I'd eat it.

user2848502016 · 20/04/2026 22:17

Yes I would

Dalmationday · 20/04/2026 22:19

yes

Bjorkdidit · 20/04/2026 22:23

How is this even a question?

Why wouldn't you eat it?

Although slow cooking isn't the best way to cook chicken breasts as they're better suited for quick cooking and 6 pm is an odd time to start off a slow cooker so your dinner will be ready somewhere between now and midnight.

likelysuspect · 20/04/2026 22:26

Yes thats the biggest shocker here, slow cooked chicken breasts

Big no no.

Be like shoe leather at the end.

They could be in a different time zone to you or slow cooker overnight for tomorrows dinner

Kickinthenostalgia · 20/04/2026 22:51

Sounds good, we often do this and are yet to get ill, as long as it wasn’t discoloured and smelled fine.

MoonWoman69 · 20/04/2026 22:54

It's fine so long as its defrosted and cooked as soon as it is.

I’m exactly the same, never met anyone else who agrees.. I usually just get the odd look 😅

Paranoia doesn’t make you I’ll.

DramaAlpaca · 21/04/2026 00:29

I wouldn't hesitate to eat the chicken, it's perfectly safe to eat.

I don't think I'd slow cook it though, it won't be tough after freezing so doesn't need slow cooking and if you do, it really will be tough at the end of it.

This was my concern, I intended to cook it on Sunday but didn't

So long as it had several days left before expiry when it went into the freezer, yes, id eat it.

If it was on its use before date when frozen, id be wary, but eat it if it smelt and looks normal.
