Anyone else feeling completely overwhelmed and exhausted by the news

I have always been interested in current affairs, did a degree in international relations, listen to podcasts, read autobiographies etc. but I am so sick of the news right now.

I don't want to know what latest idiocy that orange fuckwit has come out with.

I don't want to know who knew what about traitors and sleazeballs. Just lock them up and throw away the key.

I don't want to hear about the latest political bitchfest that is yet again distracting the government from doing its actual job.

I don't want to see devastated parents crying over their children's bodies because some dickhead man has decided to bomb them, shoot them, stab them or starve them.

Stop the world, I want to get off.

Don’t watch the news. Focus on the positive things in your own life.

Neither do I, I avoid the news most of the time now. Catch up every few months on world news otherwise nope. It’s all bias & depressing.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 17/04/2026 09:52

I'm actively avoiding the news. It means I have no idea what's going on, but, on the plus side, I have no idea what's going on.

Unfortunately, it's critical to my job that I know what's going on so I can't avoid the news. I just hate it.

You are not BU. I find I can't watch the news on TV. The visual onslaught of awful things that I have no control over is too much.

I read online news and then I can be selective about what I do and don't read. I also chose online outlets that are not sensationalist - so that I'm more likely to be reading facts than opinions and more likely to be looking at something that has some basis in reality. Financial Times tends to be my go to as I get it free through work.
