Wedding favour

Opinions please on if this is a good idea or not.

We are having a small wedding and looking at wedding favours.

There’s a poet we like and would like for one of his poems to be converted to a sound wave and have a QR code embedded so when people scan the soundwave the poem will play.

We would have it on the card with the design of the wedding invites.

As a guest, is this something that you would think is nice or naff?

Fully aware that the cards will probably be scanned once then put in a drawer!

I'd bin it without scanning I'm afraid, and be disappointed there was no actual wedding favour 😊

But that's probably just me.

Daffodilsinthespring · 16/04/2026 19:47

If you can do for about £10 go for it. Any more don’t bother. No one will appreciate it.

Everlil · 16/04/2026 19:48

They’re probably not going to scan them at the wedding (it’s a bit rude playing something in your phone at a wedding, and I doubt anyone would bring headphones), so might just get left on the table. A QR is just a link, so why don’t you include it on your wedding invite instead. People are more likely to hang on to that for a few months as it has information on it. I’m not sure people would bother taking a bit of card back from a wedding.

I’d lose it, sorry.

Your temper or the QR code? 😁

horseplay12 · 16/04/2026 19:50

Nope.

Hmmmm…. Maybe both 🤷‍♀️ kidding

Favouritefruits · 16/04/2026 19:51

Not keen on that, sorry!

OldHattie · 16/04/2026 19:52

The best wedding favours I ever got was a bag of sweets tbh. More about my comfort as a guest than the couple expressing themselves, but I appreciated it

SilverPink · 16/04/2026 19:53

That’s almost as bad as the sugared almonds everyone used to have as wedding favours

Shallysally · 16/04/2026 19:54

So it’s a nope then! Fair enough 😂

DS and DIL got married a couple of years ago. They made a donation to charity instead of favors. It seems to be catching on among their friends.

I would eat everyone's sugared almonds. Italian confection. Confetti. Yum.

Epicuriouss · 16/04/2026 21:33

Ditch favours as a concept. Nobody cares or misses them. Save yourself a bit of cash.

MiaKulper · 16/04/2026 21:35

We used to love getting sugared almonds when Mum & Dad had been to a wedding.

It was a long time before QR codes were a thing.Smile

ThatCyanCat · 16/04/2026 21:42

It wouldn't turn me on. Why not get someone to do a reading of the poem?

Best favours I ever had were sweets or chocolates, lottery tickets and mini photo holders.

Ohjustboreoffffs · 16/04/2026 21:51

We chose a local hospice who did a lottery each month. We bought everyone a ticket and put it inside the name card. We got loads of positive comments about them and we even had some wins. Guests liked them and we helped a charity.

They usually get left on the tables at the end of the night!

HoldItAllTogether · 16/04/2026 21:55

I would skip the favours completely.

MississippiCroc · 17/04/2026 06:49

I would listen to it at the time then leave it on the table.

graywingeddoor · 17/04/2026 06:52

Thing is everyone will be getting into the room your reception is, sitting down and getting a drink. Chatting with their table neighbours and then getting fed. It’s not a quiet environment to listen to a poem. Most, if not all will likely forget to take it home/not want to so it’s a bit of a waste.

Exactly this.

Nottellinganyone · 17/04/2026 06:56

What, everyone playing the poem at a different time so that you keep hearing it start up round the room??

Im sorry that really doesn’t sound good. Maybe have the poem as a reading?

Im not doing favours myself.

CarolinaLiar · 17/04/2026 06:56

Absolute waste of time for something that will end up in the bin.
