Have you ever quit a job after a month?

I really don’t like my new job. It’s not lived up to the job description at all.

I have quit after an hour.

If you can afford to and you are certain nothing will change/it won't work for you then why not.

Obviously if you're on the breadline and desperate for work it may be sensible to get applying for other things first.

Barleyhot · 16/04/2026 17:30

How long did you wait to get it? How long in previous job?

FavouriteBiggle · 16/04/2026 17:33

I walked out of a teaching job after 5 weeks.
Life is too short and work takes up such a big chunk of it to put up with a job you're unhappy in.

(Caveat - finances allowing)

Was that to leave teaching altogether? I was told that HTs blacklist staff for lesser things.

I've quit after an hour. If you are not happy and you can afford to leave then leave.

iloveeverykindofcat · 16/04/2026 17:43

No, but I have been fired in one (1) working day. Sales job. Totally failed to twig that I was supposed to be lying to the prospective customer.

JulietteHasAGun · 16/04/2026 17:44

I quit a job as a midwife after two weeks due to an unsupportive and toxic unit.

Nollie · 16/04/2026 17:54

Sometimes, if a job is never going to be right for you, you just know.

I once resigned from a teaching job almost immediately but served my notice because I didn't want a crap reference. I knew the job wasn't right for me after the first week or so. I was never so glad to walk away. Well meaning people tried to convince me to stay for longer, saying I wasn't giving it a chance, but I knew for sure.

Ibwah · 16/04/2026 17:54

I left a sales job after two weeks. It’s was awful. Selling ads for a made up bullshit business catalog - did not realise it was all awful cold calling and trying to get through to managers to get them to use their personal budget. We were also asked to stand up and pace around whilst making the sales calls like we were in the stock exchange.
I also got sacked after a two weeks at a recruitment consultancy. I was “headhunted” (CV on monster back in the day) and told I was recruiting for local authorities for health and social care jobs, which I was happy about BUT I had to make up lies about jobs and ring the same people everyday which really annoyed them and when I suggested it was detrimental, I was sacked.

I signed up to a supply agency the following Monday.

I had excellent references from my previous positions and hadn't seen a contract in those 5 weeks, never mind signed one.

I never returned to an official job but did supply for another 12 years before packing it in completely.

It never caused any issues at all.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 16/04/2026 17:58

Two months, but had another to go to. It was awful, bureaucratic beyond belief and bitchy as hell.

LittlestBoho · 16/04/2026 18:07

Yes, I quit a job after 6 weeks.

It was terrible from Day 1 (a disgusting dirty office, nobody was there to meet me so I just watched induction videos by myself) then continued to be isolating and unprofessional. I discovered the company were involved in lots of unethical behaviour, but whenever I raised concerns about quite serious compliance issues I was told not to worry and i should just rubber stamp whatever was put in front of me.

They were shocked and horrified when I resigned, but I just removed the job from my CV and LinkedIn and pretended it didn't exist. In that way, the sooner you leave the easier it is to erase all evidence of that job from existence! You won't need to mention them as a reference or anything.

Myotherusernameisshy · 16/04/2026 18:09

I quit after 4 days. Didn’t regret it for a second.

Burntt · 16/04/2026 18:20

Twice I’ve quit after about 2 weeks. Both times were nursery’s and I couldn’t be part of how the children were treated. I’m a childminder now

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 16/04/2026 18:27

I’ve known someone go out the toilet window after an hour never to be seen or heard from again. Another went after two shifts.
I went in the second week of starting one job and lasted four days in another. When you know, it’s core deep that you know it’s not a good fit.

Topsy44 · 16/04/2026 18:32

I quit one job after one week and another one after 2 days! The rest of my work history I’ve been in jobs for the long haul but I just knew in the other 2 jobs that they weren’t for me.

A cliche but life really is too short to stay in a job that’s not right for you. If it’s not working for you, I’d leave and find yourself something else.

user555999000 · 16/04/2026 18:35

Yes I had to sell cable neck sweaters in the menswear department of Debenhams. After three hours of zero customers I thought - if I have to fold one more cable neck sweater I will jump off a cliff from boredom. I left after four hours. I was so broke too.

Mossstitch · 16/04/2026 18:37

Yes, hated it, totally toxic atmosphere and bored out of my brain as not enough to do.........unfortunately had 2 month notice period which was uncomfortable 🥴

Tollington · 16/04/2026 18:40

I left a job in less than an hour once. I also left two jobs after two days and another after three days

Rearingthestars · 16/04/2026 18:49

The people and pay are fine.

But it’s very administrative, it’s a steps behind what I was doing in previous job even if I now get paid more.

The company are very stingy. I’m doing exams as a qualification for my job, they said outright they won’t fund the last part (billion ££ firm) which ok fine but the real kicker was they said I had to use my annual leave to sit my exams. It’s 2 days of the entire year.

It’s a very lonely isolating job. They said it was 2 days a week in the office. It’s more like 1 day a month and my team are global so going in makes no difference as there’s no one there anyway.

How long in your last job? How long did it take you to get this job? Can you jack it in without financially suffering?

I was in my last job 2 years and 8 years in the one before that.

I had a career gap before getting this one of 3 months. So not really in a position now to quit. I’m just so miserable.

I left HMRC after 7 weeks. I am not suited to the civil service at all, which became abundantly obvious within about a week. Like a PP, I just pretend it never happened CV wise.

canuckup · 16/04/2026 20:17

Yes

Selling mortgages door to door in Liverpool??? 😂 No thanks

Also, working as a chalet hostess in ski resorts. They gave me a uniform with a bleach stain on it. Not for me.

SixSevenShutUp · 16/04/2026 20:31

It's not giving you the challenge you need, so look around for your next job now. I hate being bored and unstretched at work. People will understand that you want to be moving up in responsibility not backwards.
