My lower back keeps 'going' what can I do?

My lower back - side to side just the lower bit- keeps 'going' don't really know the medical term for it.
It doesn't happen too often it was once a year but about 3 weeks ago I had to actually phone an ambulance as I couldn't move from my office chair. They arrived after a few hours and were lovely. They even went and got me drugs- naproxan and diazepam.
I needed to take time of work as I couldn't move.
Im away work atm but it 'gone' again. I've taken naproxan and can sit up in a chair , walking is painful.
I am overweight and have severe arthritis in my ankles and hips so exercise is not really something I can do easily.
What can I do to strengthen my lower back?

Sorry to hear this. A good physio will recommend exercises to help
you get stronger. You can do them anywhere. If i were you I’d do them regularly even when you’re not in pain. Strengthening your core would be great too. Good luck xx

Lose more weight and do core exercises - plank if you can. Keep moving.

Look up Tom Morrison on YouTube. He does lots of q&a and exercises are adaptable for hypermobility, good for those on the move & time poor. I also agree you should try & get a formal diagnosis through mri etc in case it's something more bone/disc related

If the problem is your sacroiliac joints, I can recommend a surgeon who has put me right in that respect after being shoved from pillar to post and botch ups by the NHS since 2015. I have lost 11 years of my life trying to get this sorted.

To put it bluntly: weight loss and exercise.
For years I had an excuse not to do it. My back was always hurting but I kept telling myself I was doing all I could. It took a frank conversation with an old friend who told me to start moving my arse more because it's not normal to be in pain every day.
She was right. One pilates class a week won't make any big difference. Keep up the weight loss and start walking for an hour a day. Consult a GP or physio but do join a gym and make sure you find the time to go twice a week. If you're away with work, use the hotel gym. Build up every muscle in your back and it will support the weak area. Start slowly and don't do anything which feels wrong. Invest in a PT for a couple of months to get you started.
Since I did this my back pain has vanished and I feel completely empowered. I don't make excuses anymore - the link between how much I exercise and how much better I feel is so clear.

Friend at work was having to have injections for his back and they were talking about surgery. He, once he stopped being in actual pain and could walk again, took up Pilates 3 times a week, got a sit/standing desk for work, walks more (he is skinny and walked a lot anyway) - he says the Pilates has made the biggest difference. he's been injection and pain killer free for 3 years now. At one point he was worried he wasn't going to walk again. The advice from his consultant was move more.
