When to worry about 18 months development?

My boy is 18 months and he has done everything a little late but usually gets the in the end.
He has finally started taking a few steps in the last week but he’s still not saying anything at all, he does babble but no actual words.
Even dada and mumum have no meaning to him as he will say that out of context but they are the only sounds that resemble real words so far.
Occasionally he has copied a sound and said it for a day or two but then he won’t say it again.
If we clap, point or wave he will copy or if I say good boy he will clap his hands or hello/bye bye he will wave so he does recognise phrases and does actions to familia nursery rhymes but doesn’t do other gestures.

He does respond to his name but only sometimes if he’s busy he’ll just ignore me, does this sound concerning at this stage?

If you think that he might have problems with his hearing then that would warrant a visit to the GP but it’s early to be concerned. I’m not saying that there’s definitely nothing wrong but you should see things improve in the next six months.

My children are much older but kids went on the waiting list for speech therapy at their 2 year check if they were behind on speech but many cancelled their appointments before they reached the top of the list as their child had caught up.

My sons only communicated by pointing at your son’s age but understood some words like shoes, dinner, milk etc
