Garden office - cedar or composite?

We're going to get a garden office (one a company does, not a DIY one) budget up to £30k.
Torn between composite (easy to maintain, looks less nice in my opinion) or cedar. Which one did you choose and are you happy with it? What does your maintainence of cedar involve? Did you get composite and regret the look and wish you'd chosen cedar?
Thanks

I thought cedar was pretty much maintenance free?
If it isn’t, is it you doing the maintenance OP because I think the person doing it should have the choice.

When you say composite doesn’t look as nice, is that close up?
How far away will you be when looking at it from the house?

I've got a cedar summerhouse and I absolutely love it, however I only use it for pleasure/leisure purposes. The plus points are:

  • It makes a very attractive feature in the garden & looks much nicer than the composite equivalents.
  • It's really cosy in a hygge kind of way.

The downside is that it does need maintenance. Over time the sun dries out the wood and eventually the slats may crack or warp. So I get mine wood treated every 2-3 years at a cost of a few hundred pounds.

I would say that if it's just for work then composite is the more practical option. But if you also plan to use it for leisure then I'd be very tempted to go for the cedar.

Whichever material you choose the one thing I would insist on is side-opening windows. These small outbuildings can get stuffy and there are days when it's too cold to keep the doors open So being able to open window(s) to let some fresh air in would be my “must have” feature.

Thankyou both, yes see your point about who is doing the maintenance. Would be DH so if it is a case of every couple of years it needs an oil he doesn't mind but if alot of work every year he does. (It is his office though hence why it is him doing maintenence). I just care how it looks too as obviously it'll be quite prominent in our garden!
