How can I update my partner's employment details on our joint UC claim? Urgent help needed

Hi, name changed as there is a lot of hate for benefit claimants. My dh was made redundant unexpectedly, he went into work as usual, everyone was made redundant on the spot with no notice, consultation etc the company had gone into administration. His salary and bonus from March were not been paid, he was made redundant on 30/3/2026 the day before payday. He’s had to claim this off of the government redundancy fund along with redundancy pay, holiday pay and payment in lieu of notice, which can take 12 weeks.

We have an active UC claim for childcare and we get minimal help with rent, I’ve been trying to update them with this information for two weeks, phone line are no help. I can login to my account no trouble, it’s a joint claim, I can see he’s on the claim and see the kids. He can not login to his account for the same claim as it’s asking for a 16 digit pin number provided by the job centre when we opened the claim in 2016, he doesn’t know it. He has the correct username and password. Here’s my question Google is telling me as it’s a joint claim I should be able to update his employment details but I can’t. If I go to change of circumstance and click employment it brings up my details with no option to switch to his profile. If I click people who live with you it only lists the children, so please can anyone who’s had to do this please tell me how? He starts a new job tomorrow so I also need to update them with his new employer details.

He is definitely on the claim, I can see his empty to do list and his name, wages etc are on the monthly statements.

Thank you to anyone who can help, I need to update this ASAP as our assessment period finishes on the 15/04/2026 and if I don’t we could be fined or prosecuted.

Simple. Drop a message in your journal asking this very question

I did that two weeks ago had no reply. I have also put his new employment details on there, employers name, salary, start date etc today.

I really don’t know why they insist on two logins for a joint claim, surely either person making changes etc is fine considering we are married and it’s a joint claim.

I think he will need to do it from his side of the journal so needs to get that number if he can't access it. If he is having no earnings reported through HMRC though they will know that and your UC payment should go up to reflect that. You may both start having work commitment meetings though if neither of you have earnings. It may then cause some problems when those march wages and holiday pay are paid. Redundancy pay should be treated as capital rather than earnings.

Has he asked how he can get a new 16 digit number? I think he may need to go to the job centre for this. It's probably locking him out if he does not regularly log into his part of the journal. call them and ask how he gets a new number. Also just send a journal message under ' payments' option saying that he has lost his job then at least you have proof you have let them know. This message will go straight to case manager.

Has he phoned the helpline and asked for a PIN reset? It must be him, not you that does it.

Edited

Sorry ignore what I said about job centre appointments- I see now he has a new job.

Thank you @Pickledonion1999 he will have a full months wages end of April, he was unemployed for a week, hoping that’s not a problem. Do you think they will make him take unpaid leave from his new job to go to weekly appointments? I really hope they use common sense, we can supply offer letter contract etc etc, surely they wouldn’t want to jeopardise new employment for a job search appointment he doesn’t need.

I will get him to call tomorrow and see if they will issue a new pin over the phone/in the post/via email.
