How can I relax and enjoy my holiday when I'm on a diet.

Over 2 months I have lost 12pounds.
On holiday and everything I have a drink or something to eat that is not as healthy I feel guilty. Thinking how much weight will go back on.
I've looked forward to this holiday but don't feel relaxed.

You are not going to put on lots of body fat on one holiday, unless you are eating and drinking crazy amounts. If you weigh more on the scale it will be mostly water weight from extra volume of food, and perhaps a small amount of body fat that you have proven you can lose again.

You can also make better choices for some days/meals. So if you want to have a big dinner, make breakfast fruit and yoghurt. If you want to go wild at the breakfast buffet, you probably don’t need lunch and dinner can be fish and veg that day.

I’ve been following intermittent fasting for a few years now and like you was a little concerned about holidays. I’ve found that it wasn’t too difficult, and yes I had a small dessert most evenings. I soon got back into the swing of it once back home.

Enjoy your holiday and just be sensible, have little treats but don’t beat yourself up. You’ve done really well so far, losing weight is the easy bit, keeping it off is a different mindset, you can do it 🤗

I find if it's hot it's quite difficult to eat big heavy meals. I'd be going hell for leather on the beer though!

If you're walking around a fair bit, experiencing new things, you do burn quite a bit of energy. So just try and enjoy it. You can always cut back a bit for a while when you return if you do gain.

It’s common to put on weight on holiday. 2 weeks can easily be 2-4 lbs, sadly. Try small portions and don’t touch desserts. I’m going to have a similar problem this summer. I’m jabbing so taking all that with me. I cannot overeat - and it’s partly on a boat so easy to do so! Hopefully I can resist - it’s the only way!

Instead of thinking about what you are eating, think about what you are not eating.

If you have a dessert that's fine, because you didn't have an ice cream at the beach. If you have a couple of rashers of bacon with your breakfast that's fine because you didn't go for the frothy, syrupy coffee and just had a black tea instead. If you have a burger then you didn't eat the bun/dressing/chips.

Obviously this isn't a long-term strategy, and you still have to exercise a bit of restraint, but it works for me in short-term situations such as a holiday.

Hope you can relax and enjoy yourself.

You deserve a few treats, a small ice cream perhaps, but don't get obsessed with it, enjoy your more important holiday.
Have salads, fruit, yoghurt, depending on where you are, but markets, etc., have great food

Well the sensible answer would be to eat less the rest of the day if you’re going to have a big dinner for example, move as much as possible rather than lying on a lounger all day and be careful with alcohol.

Just eat healthy food and be active. Don’t drink loads of alcohol.

We went away in February and the food was excellent. It was super easy to eat lots of protein, fresh veg and salads. I’m not on a diet, but I do eat healthy just because I like it. It was quite easy with someone else doing all the cooking. Just lay off the crisps and wine and enjoy your holiday. Stay busy, walk and swim loads. Enjoy an ice cream now and then.
