Where to stay in Birmingham for a large family staycation

Any advice on where to stay in Birmingham for an extended-family staycation? Looking to do Cadbury World, Aquarium etc. It's not a conventional holiday destination and we need ideally 6 bedrooms. Which are nice areas or areas to avoid?! Or even somewhere further out with good access (car or public transport). Thanks!

Perhaps look at Edgbaston or Harborne for large properties to rent with 6 bedrooms, amd ease of access into birmingham.
Perhaps Bournville or Selly oak for large properties for hire in a lower cost bracket than the two previously mentioned, further out but on the cross city line.
I would also recommend adding the back to backs to your list, and if any Tolkien fans- the Tolkien trail!

Great thank you, will take a look.
My husband is a huge Tolkien fan!

The word "staycation" has always, until kidnapped and abused by the tourist industry during Covid, meant staying at home, in your own house, doing restful and holiday-like activities without going away. A holiday in the UK is a holiday and for millions of families 100% of their holidays (not every year, as they can't afford one every year) are in the UK because that's all they can afford. Calling a UK holiday a "staycation" tells everyone who hears you that you have far too much money and have no idea of your own privilege because you are classifying the thing that for many people would be their actual main holiday as "not a real holiday". The boundaries got messed up during covid because no one was flying if they didn't have to, and the whole industry needed to make sure the marketing message got out there that if you don't get on a plane you haven't had a holiday. It's not true.

This, 1000 times. MN ought to have tech so every time someone types the word staycation it shows a pop-up asking the user to confirm they actually mean that.

OP is you are asking for recommendations of accommodation you are clearly not planning a staycation.

Tolkiens hangout, where he found his inspiration, is in the hall green side of Birmingham which may have some large homes to rent.

Other than that I would recommend harbourne, egdebaston, Solihull (not far from Brum and has a decent shopping centre) or Moseley.

We’ve stayed in or around Birmingham a few times to combine a short break with visiting family and I’ve also stayed for work a few times. There’s plenty of decent hotels in city centre (parking expensive but very convenient if coming on train) but we’ve also had AirBnB in jewellery quarter and two cottages just into Worcestershire so about 30 mins drive: https://www.sykescottages.co.uk/cottage/Peak-District-Peak-District-Derbyshire-Dales-Belbroughton/The-Stables-1098248.html and https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/1098561789930712045. We have also stayed in Edgbaston Park Hotel which is on the uni campus.

The Stables

The Stables - A spacious, semi-detached property attached to the owner’s home close to the village of Belbroughton in Worcestershire. Smart TV. Patio. Ideal for families. Bromsgrove 4.5 miles; Stourbridge 6.9 miles; Kidderminster 9.7 miles.

If he is a Tolkien fan you need a walk around the beautiful scenic Edgbaston reservoir where you can see the Tolkien towers
