Did your parents leave your old bedroom unchanged after you moved out?

If you were to go to your parents home now

Does anyone still have a bedroom as it was when you used to live there

Not so much as they kept it as a shrine to the good days when you used to live there (like a god 🤣)

More that when you moved out that bedroom was not really used again so was just left as it was

(When I moved out my parents were quick to redecorate)

And some extra context to why I think thats so shit is that they had a 5 bedroom house with two living rooms, a fining room, a conservatory, a cellar and an office... and I was their only child.

No. My oldest brother, who had shared with our other brother, moved into it the day I left.

When my eldest son left, my youngest moved into that room as it was bigger, and I made his room into a study/spare room which the oldest could stay in for visits.

But I’ve moved several times since then.

My mother asked me to leave when I was 16 and then promptly moved to a smaller home with just two bedrooms one for her one for the golden child. She even got rid of her sofa and replaced it with one too small to lie on. Just to make sure I could definitely not return.

Nope, my mum turned it into a dining room as soon as I was out the door!

TabbyM · 13/04/2026 11:50

@tartyflette mine too. Still resent that as his (old) room stayed the same for years until it finally became a spare room. Thanks to my Dad's hoarding neither spare room is now useable sadly as this would be very handy. Could be worse though, my cousins' childhood rooms were rented out to foreign students.

My parents redecorated my room after I got married. I still live in the house I brought my children up in and there have been many changes over the years with them being boomerangs. I think they are all settled in their own homes now but never say never! We have some of their possessions around the place still.
I'm sorry to read some of the sad stories here 😔
