Is there any nice walk after getting food there? Have a few hours to kill.

Thanks

Yes it's interesting, you can walk to the canal/park/nature reserve as well as the shops and cafes and general vintage architecture. (Trying to find my way out of Uniqlo took most of an hour).

Its an expensive shopping area and quite dull high brow shops. However nice area to visit the canal and perhaps walk to Camden. Spot the euro star

SheilaFentiman · 10/04/2026 23:32

There’s a bookshop on a barge pretty close by!

thetinsoldier · 10/04/2026 23:35

I assume you mean in north London? Might have been helpful to add that.

Depends what time of day you’re there. There’s a nature reserve you can walk round, and shops, if you’re there 9-5. There’s a handmade market round by the Waitrose too, dates and times tbc.

There’s also the canal - walks both ways, go on for ages. Plus the canal museum.

How many other Coal Drops Yards are there? Confused

LilyCanna · 10/04/2026 23:42

The British Library is nearby. Looks like the current main exhibition is more for kids but there is a free ‘highlights of their collection’ one. Or if the weather’s nice you could go for a walk along the canal as others have suggested.

Well, I don’t know, but there may be others, it’s not impossible. Other coal yards in the UK well have been redesigned as shops…

since the op is so eager for replies that they posted soon after the OP asking for replies, then it might be helpful to give more info in the OP!

The British library is just the other side of St Pancras, or the Francis Crick Nextdoor usually has a free exhibition downstairs. There’s Camley St nature park across the canal, or carry on up Camley st to Old St Pancras churchyard. If you walk along the canal towpath, you’ll end up in Camden. If the weather’s good and you like watching trains, then you could sit at gasholder park a while. The canal museum is close by too. It’s right by Kings Cross, there’s a lot of possibilities nearby!

BeaLola · 11/04/2026 00:06

There’s a Sostrene Gren store …

The answer is none.

Coal drops yard is the only place with that name. It’s is very easy to look up the location on a search engine.

Strange response, you wouldn't come on to help unless you knew where Coal Drops Yard was surely....

People watch and eat x

AbzMoz · 11/04/2026 00:42

Yes it’s a nice area for a few hours. There’s shops / bars / cafes. The nature reserve is v sweet, and walking east along the towpath is nice. The canal museum is small but I think the ticket includes a go on a boat thru the tunnels (at least it used to).

VivienneDelacroix · 11/04/2026 00:55

Central St Martin's (University of the Arts, London) usually has an exhibition on.

saraclara · 11/04/2026 01:00

I really like that area. Nice shops, great food and drink, and lovely canal walks in either direction.

SO much to eat! Then I like to sit with a coffee, either on the canal steps, or the grass on the other side of The Lighterman, and just watch canal life.

JacknDiane · 11/04/2026 07:46

Oh, great answers, thank you.

The canal walk sound lovely, with a takeaway coffee maybe.

And it would be easy for the OP to look up what she could do there, too, but she didn't.

tfu · 11/04/2026 07:51

If you have children Coram’s field is nearby https://coramsfields.org/

Sometimes it's just nice to talk to people and get informed recommendations with a personal touch. The day that Google entirely replaces people interacting with one another, is one I never want to see.

Melarus · 11/04/2026 08:08

If you're not with kids and like walking rather than shopping, you could walk up the canal all the way to the top of Regents park. That's a nice walk as it passes through Camden, which is busy and entertaining, and then through the calmer residential areas. About 40 minutes from Coal Drops Yard.

According to that David Attenborough programme, there are snakes living by the canal as it runs alongside the park - I'd be looking out for those!

Itcantbetrue · 11/04/2026 08:30

We did the canal walk and I didn't enjoy it at all
I felt it was run down and at times scary with some dodgy looking characters hanging around

Like I said, watch out for the snakes 😆
