Do Alton Towers measure toddlers?

Bloopbloopbleep · 08/04/2026 18:37

We booked tickets a few months ago for alton towers, and our just-two year old has had a growth spurt and is now just on 90cm. Do they check at the door or do we risk it?! Paying full price for a bloody two year old is just outrageous

I'm pretty sure the only time our toddler was measured was for rides, not at the entrance.

Thank you! So do they not measure them to verify that they can go in for free?

They measure at Peppa Pig World at the entrance

Honestly? I would expect them to be measured at the entrance. And would be surprised if they weren't measured at the entrance.

I mean that's what the rules are there for isn't it. And yes they'll get money if they're over whatever height so they'll want to measure them. And also to stop people bending the truth.

WaneyEdge · 08/04/2026 18:58

I’ve definitely been to a theme park (can’t remember which but could well have been AT) where they had a measuring stick height thing that toddlers had to pass under. This was some time ago now, hence the crap memory!

Duejuly26 · 08/04/2026 18:59

From what I remember, they do measure if they’re unsure, we’ve been a few times and they asked me to get my daughter out of her stroller

baaabaaa · 08/04/2026 19:00

They do at LEGOLAND which is owned by Merlin as well so I’d expect them to check at AT as well

So charging the same price as a full adult for a child just turned 2 is reasonable? Imagine loving corporations this much 😅 embarrassing

Strange response to my post

Surely this information is on their website.

Needlessly knobbish OP, they were just giving you the info you’d requested?

Well, not really. I was asking people who had been to let me know if their toddlers got measured. PP hasnt indicated a recent visit but just outlined what she would 'expect' them to do.

it’ll depend on how thorough the person is on the gate so no one can predict. The reason is that children over 90cm are paying customers is because they can go on more rides than the under 90cm.

Might be worth looking into this pass:
For toddlers, a special Parent & Toddler Pass is available online for £29 (includes one adult and one child aged 5 and under, off-peak weekdays

Thank you! Ill bear that one in mind for next time. The idea of paying nearly £70 for a 2 year old is galling to me and id not anticipated this huge growth spurt- she doesnt even like rides 🤣

It looks clear on the website

Under 90cm go free, up to 4 children, with at least one paying adult. Entry will be issued at the park entrance once we've checked the height of the child/children.

I guess I would call them then.

Daisymae55 · 08/04/2026 19:51

We’ve not done Alton towers but recently did Legoland and Peppa Pig World - both measured - even requested my 18 month old nephew get out of the pram to check his height. I think places are getting a lot stricter with measuring young children as there were a lot of “hacks” on tik tok of people sneaking in children over the height limit by having them pretend to sleep in prams covered in blankets.

We actually booked tickets for a theme park for my 3 year old and paid as she was on the cusp - they measured her at the park and said that she didn’t need to pay so offered us either food vouchers or a free visit another day which I thought was really good.

It’s literally the second piece of info they give after you click “buy tickets”

Why wouldn’t you have to pay for a kid tall enough to go on the rides?

Surely you would be better biting my an online ticket in advance then? Considerably cheaper. Then if they say on the day they are below the 90cm ask for a refund

Whilst it seems expensive based on their age, it’s about their ability to go on rides. It is free under that height as bigger all they can go on.

So you either suck it up and pay on the day if too tall, bite the bullet and pay in advance, or find someone to look after your toddler whilst you go for the day.

Jellybunny98 · 08/04/2026 19:55

We went the weekend before Easter and they were asking toddlers to be taken out of buggies to stand against the little measuring board thing, at least in the queue I was in. They had a board stuck to the wall with the height on where you pay/collect tickets

Tillow4ever · 08/04/2026 19:59

Might be worth looking at their current offers. £32 tickets and you get a second day free - but the second day can be a different theme park if you want!

Do Alton Towers measure toddlers?
ViaRia01 · 08/04/2026 20:01

The information isn’t going to be on the website is it? “Children under 2 are free, over 90cm are charged at full rate but don’t worry about that, we don’t check anyway so just do whatever you like”.

I don’t know about Alton Towers but if it helps, our son was not measured at LEGOLAND. So that differs from a PP which suggests they sometimes do/ sometimes don’t.

The information is on the website. It says very clearly they height check upon entry.
