If you are a 50 year old who has chronic health problems- what are your hobbies?

I have lost myself in the past 10 years with a major life changing injury, two chronic health conditions that deplete my energy and an older disabled teen who requires a huge amount of input.

I need to find a passion. I like reading. I love animals. I adore travelling (but - funds...) . I'd love some ideas. I just feel like I don't have anything that reall y speaks to me.

TIA

I joined a gym. I get it half price. I've had a stroke (cant walk properly and cant move my arm) have Multiple Sclerosis and Epilepsy. I swim, it helps. Plus there are loads of ladies up the to have a cuppa with.

Do you mind me asking how you manage the swimming with epilepsy? I really miss swimming but I would need someone wirh me and our local pool said i would need a medical letter confirming I am safe to swim and no one will say that! It also costs a fortune, was your half price an offer? (I’m talking about council owned gym, the private one is way out of range sadly as they have a hydrotherapy pool I would love).

I love knitting - it's really trendy at the moment, also stops* me snacking as I need clean hands.

(*Chopsticks can be used for emergency crisp rations).

Love the chopsticks idea!

Have you heard of woolly hugs btw?

I see you used to ride so what about carriage driving?

I had to stop riding some years ago due to increasing disability from advanced osteoarthritis.

I am severely affected now and can only walk with a rollator or crutches.
Last year I started carriage driving and I can’t tell you what a difference it has made to my life.

I go to a group which is specifically for disabled people. You could contact the British Carriage Driving Association to see if there is one in your area or you could just find a place which gives lessons and start that way.

It is so lovely being with horses and like minded people again as well as being outdoors.

My epilepsy is half controlled. I tell the life guard and only swim up to the place I can stand. Also helps that I dont lose consciousness when I fit.

Yes, it's a council one. They run a gym to get fit thing where you tell your GP and they send a form to the gym... giving you half price.

Its only for medical reasons!

If only you were older, I would recommend the 60+ activities at your local gym. I do silver pilates and silver circuits. They are both very gentle activities, but I feel they help my muscles and bones (I'm 63 with chronic autoimmune conditions and fatty liver disease).

Ah okay, thank you. Mine is very uncontrolled (3/4 a week atm!) and tonic clonic as well as focal impaired so swimming is out sadly (understandably I suppose).

Thats really good about the fees for you!
