My cat’s hair is really getting me down

It’s just fucking everywhere. All the time. And worse at this time of year. She’s a short hair but is quite furry and she’s old now - 15 - so not that good at grooming. It gets matted too. I try and brush hair but she doesn’t allow it much.

Im just sick of a layer of hair everywhere. It makes me feel grubby. I’ll wash clothes, put them on and then go out and realise there’s fucking cat hair everywhere.

How do people cope with this, are their tricks I’m missing?

The only thing you can do is brush as much as possible, perhaps trying different brushes, including a furminator. Shave off any mats - a vet nurse can help with this. Perhaps take the cat to a groomer a couple of times a year. You can get some sedative off the vet if you feel this might help keep the cat calmer.

Brush the cat often. There are versions of cat brushes, furminator?, which are said to be effective.
Lint roller your clothes and soft furnishings (the ones with lots of sticky sheets of paper on a roller, Korbond, not the old style weird jelly rubber or carpet-like material which are useless).
What didn't work for me: yumove anti-moulting supplement oil.

Mine doesn’t allow a normal brush but she likes the ones that I wear as a glove and has the brush built in. Maybe try a different brush?

Rubber brushes are good for getting hair off fabric, or those mitts (I got some on Amazon) where you swipe your hand round and round and the hair forms a mat in the middle of the mitt, easily removed and dropped in the bin.

I sympathise because I don't like noticing there's cat hair on our clothes when we're out and about, it looks unclean to me. I can't complain though because my hair is worse than the cat's.

Can you give her a couple of treats while you groom her, if that'll help?

Robot hoover. Life changing for living with shedding pets.

Also a Furminator brush.

As a side note (I'm a vet) she might not be allowing brushing if she's sore with eg athritis and might not be grooming well due to arthritis or dental issues. Might be worth having a vet check. Also, veterinary nurses are usually excellennt at grooming and can help wth matted bits.
