After being on Mumsnet for nearly 15 years, I'm surprised that I haven't posted this Easter story before.
When I was a student nurse 1971 - 75, then as a Staff Nurse, a grateful patient who had frequent admissions to my ward would have a huge, thick chocolate Easter Egg made for the staff to share.
The ward sister would try to get most staff together ie at shift changes/ nights/ earlies/ lates for the ritual presentation.
She would put a sheet as a tablecloth over the table and on it put kitchen scales, labeled paper bags and a shiny, silver toffee hammer.
Ceremoniously, she then weighed the egg, smashed it with the hammer, divvied up the chocolate and placed it in afore mentioned labeled bags.
I was lucky enough to have witnessed this 4 times before leaving my training hospital for my home town.
I'm in my 70's now and long retired so I think it's safe to say that the donor was a successful businessman from a small village near to the larger City where my training school and hospital was.
I'd be dead chuffed if any Mumsnetter recognises this scenario or has a similar tale to tell.
