Just that really.
Dh managed to fill up our car this morning at Asda( not panic buying, car was almost empty)and there was a large queue behind him when he left.
Two of our local Tescos had run out of petrol.

I've heard that the cheapest garages are running out. My son said that our local Tesco was closed as they had no fuel when he went past, but that the tanker had just arrived. I don't think there is a lack of fuel, just heightened demand.

youalright · 03/04/2026 12:50

Tesco has run out everywhere else fine

TurboGirl2 · 03/04/2026 12:52

Both tesco and sainsburys near me ran out yesterday but went today and no queue , just didn't have the super unleaded. Diesel so expensive though.

PolkaDotPorridge · 03/04/2026 12:52

We are fairly rural. Local garage has capped allowance at £20 per car.

begonefoulclutter · 03/04/2026 12:52

Eye-wateringly expensive, but available.

ThePoshUns · 03/04/2026 12:53

I popped to our Sainsbury’s this morning for food shop and was shocked to see the petrol station all
closed up as they had no fuel.
well
done to the idiots panic buying.

Bombombomtralala · 03/04/2026 12:53

Fine but not sure how long that will last due to school holidays and being in an area that is a popular tourist destination. Should have considered this yesterday.

Laiste · 03/04/2026 12:54

We're rural. The 3 garages nearest us are all similar price for diesel. I just spent £70 on half a tank 😳 No queue tho .....

MaJoady · 03/04/2026 12:54

Fine around here

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 03/04/2026 12:54

I managed to fill up at Tesco early the other morning, having failed to be able to find petrol the night before. I was getting a bit anxious about it tbh as the tank was starting to run quite low. I noticed that they were completely out of fuel again yesterday.

I think it's mostly down to people panic buying, isn't it? Like the bloody covid toilet rolls all over again!

CitizenZ · 03/04/2026 12:57

Had to get some at my local Tesco today. I was literally the only one at the station, so thankfully people where I live are being sensible.

ABC0375056 · 03/04/2026 12:58

My car is petrol and is available diesel is struggling I have seen lots of comments on social media saying x place is out.
Unfortunately my husbands family live a tank of fuel away so whenever I use 100 mile in usual every day life which is approximately 2 weeks I fill up to the top.

OverTheWater28 · 03/04/2026 13:01

Totally fine here.

MissingTrees · 03/04/2026 13:17

All fine here, fuel available and no queues. Even the cheapest garage (Morrisons) had fuel and no queues, plenty of pumps available and only 3 cars in there when I walked past a couple of times yesterday.

And we are in a holiday area, so I thought this week would be busier.

FlayOtters · 03/04/2026 13:21

In a gentle way, I'm not sure that posts like this are helpful. I've been past probably 10 petrol stations today, none have been out of fuel and none have had queues. But scaremongering and panic buying are what is leading to the shortages that there are.

NonViolentProtest · 03/04/2026 13:24

No queues or closures near me. Got petrol totally normally today.

YouDriveMeCrazyButICanDoThatMyself · 03/04/2026 13:28

Fine.
I’ve driven by 5 petrol stations today. All open, no queues.

TheCurious0range · 03/04/2026 13:30

I filled up yesterday had less than a quarter of a tank and 160 miles to drive, when I got to Tesco yesterday morning half the pumps had no petrol, they had diesel, but the tanker was there, it was 148.9 a litre by the time I drove back past about 7 hours later it was 150.9

Toosoonforahotcrossbun · 03/04/2026 13:33

I’ve been living under a rock - work is crazy at the moment and I quite literally didn’t know about this until a friend send me an article about local garages.

Is the panic buying because people are scared about the rising cost or scared about availability?

I know I could google

zingally · 03/04/2026 13:34

There was a random kick-off at my local Sainsburys the other day, when they suddenly went a fair bit cheaper than everyone else. News travelled fast and it caused traffic chaos on one of the major roads round the town.

The petrol station nearest me is usually one of the cheapest in town, but that's now 150 for unleaded. I will fill my car up tomorrow, which is my normal Saturday morning job. It is what it is really. It's that bloody ginger toddlers work.

Pineapplewaves · 03/04/2026 13:40

All the supermarkets are sold out - people are putting posts on Facebook every-time a delivery arrives which is causing long queues as everyone rushes out. You have a good chance of getting petrol at the more expensive branded petrol stations like BP or Shell.

It’s Good Friday though, people are going on holiday or days out. Lots of people are off work today and have time to sit in a queue. Luckily the weather is rubbish so we have no plans to go out. The GP’s all have bus passes and can travel to us for Easter for free so need to panic in our house.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 03/04/2026 13:52

Fine. Expensive. However have seen now people share on Facebook about shortages in other towns etc so no doubt it'll be less fine...its like last time! More people post more people go out and then buy

Pedallleur · 03/04/2026 14:22

There is another thread but the petrol companies are not reporting shortages and are supplying as normal. However demand may well be exceeding supply. But it seems at times that despite people saying their garages are ok, others want to hear that one has no fuel so clearly the nation is on the brink of collapse. The DM loves that sort of story.

kiwiane · 03/04/2026 14:30

It can only be people keeping a fullish tank and that makes sense over time. I don’t call it panic buying; if they were storing lots of fuel it would be different.

Steelworks · 03/04/2026 14:57

Nothing unusual at petrol stations around here (Kent). Filled up absolutely fine on Wednesday night, although fuel has gone up by 16p per litre in three weeks.
