Is anyone else too hot at night with a combi boiler?

PerkyOchrePeer · 03/04/2026 01:31

How do people cope with sleeping at night in bed under a duvet with a combi boiler. I am too hot even though my thermostat has been turned right down a d it's so uncomfortable. I hate the boiler i did not ask for it because my housing association just gave it to me and I had no choice but IM unable to sleep because I'm too hot even with the temperature turned right the way down. I just can't cope with this anymore.

What are you talking about? Are you drunk?

turn the heating off entirely and you won’t be hot

Seeingadistance · 03/04/2026 01:36

Turn the heating off!

Blimms · 03/04/2026 01:39

Why don’t you just turn the heating off?

blueshoes · 03/04/2026 01:40

A combi boiler is not an Aga.

FiveShelties · 03/04/2026 01:41

Did you post the other day about being too cold?

Oh yes.

Blimms · 03/04/2026 01:43

Oh yes.

Yes but that was because the thermostat wasn't set up. Now it is set up the way these boilers work is that you have a censor outside, which gives an inside room, fixed temperature. And then if you are sleeping at night, Anthony's a duvet with the room fixed temperature, you will feel even hotter even when you have turned the thermostat, right the way down, so you cannot get any cooler. I absolutely hate this, and I wish I had an ordinary boiler because I don't likshe these boilers.I think there a load of rubbish

When I looked online to find out what would happen if I switch the boiler off altogether, it's said that if you do that, you will cause a burst pipe or you'll cause the be boiler to malfunction, so it's best to keep it on. My old boiler was not a combi boiler, and it was much more suitable to my needs. When it broke down, landlord decided to give me a combi boiler and said this is what you need, and I had no choice.. i would not choose to have a Combi boiler, in a million years, I think there are loads of rubbish.

You can turn it off. And it definitely shouldn’t be based on the temperature outside. If you really don’t want to turn it off, then turn your radiator off instead.

nocoolnamesleft · 03/04/2026 02:00

This isn't a problem of combi boilers. But it may be a problem of your particular combi boiler. On mine, when I set up the timings I set the overnight thermostat temp to sufficiently low that the heating won't kick in at all until it hits the morning setting, an hour before I get up.

ExOptimist · 03/04/2026 02:07

Turn your radiator thermostat down. Or turn off the radiator. Or get a lower tog duvet. Or open your window. At least one of those things will be possible.

FiveShelties · 03/04/2026 02:07

Does it not have a timer? So you can program it to be off at night, or set to a low temperature?

fairylightsanon · 03/04/2026 02:15

You pick what temperature you want
mine is set to 5c overnight so it never comes on
then 16c in the day
combi boilers aren’t particularly new, most people have them

Then what is making you so hot? Sorry, OP, but this is making little sense.

Edited

The thermostat is down and the sensor pdoes give a room temperature according to the outside temperature. That's what the electrician told me.

Where is the heat coming from if your radiators are cold?

An outside sensor for a combi boiler, often referred to as a weather compensation sensor, measures the external air temperature and sends this data to the boiler's controller. Its primary purpose is to adjust the boiler's heat output proactively based on weather conditions, rather than reactively based on inside temperatures.

But your radiators are off. The boiler itself doesn’t get hot. Only the radiators do. So if your radiators are off, the heating is off. So there is nothing to make you hot.

DoAWheelie · 03/04/2026 02:37

If the radiators are off then there is no heating happening. So if you are too hot you'd be too hot with the heating system turned off entirely.

Most automatic systems still let you override them and turn it off - this isn't the same as turning the boiler off entirely, just telling it to ignore the sensors and stay off.

How you doing have access to the controls? Is it a panel on the boiler, a separate device, or an app? I have mine controlled via a device but I can also use the app and voice commands to control it so that it sticks to the correct temperature during the day and stays off at night.

Open a window.

Your thermostat must be set to a much higher temperature during the day, and you must have good insulation which means your house is retaining that heat at night.

So open a window.

You’re outing yourself with that first photo, because we can very clearly see your reflection.

I would really recommend asking MN to remove that first image

PerkyOchrePeer · 03/04/2026 03:02

Ive posted a poc of my thermostat which gives a current room temperature even with the heating turned right the way down. The electrician said the current room tempe cannot be changed
