Impressed with Lidl

I used to go to Aldi and Lidl quite frequently but then I found they were a bit out of my way (eg not that walkable) and one Lidl near me closed down. I currently use Sainsbury’s and Tescos and an independent organic shop and also Waitrose and M&S. Some things I will still get from latter, eg asparagus spears, much nicer there than in Sainsbury’s. Plus fresh herb selection better in Waitrose/m&s.

So, I’m on a budget atm, went to Lidl to get some bits, mostly fruit, veg, some tinned items and hummus, pepperami, luxe crisps, and an Easter egg. To say I was surprised at the bill (much cheaper) is an understatement. So I’m definitely returning, I don’t know why I fell out of love with them. And from my other thread re teabags I got a load of red label teabags which taste fine for far less than my twinings everyday!

Anyway are there any gems at both Aldi and Lidl that I’m missing out on? And, who recalls Netto around I I think in 90s/00s?

Oh I do drive too, but got fed up with busy traffic jams and a 10 minute drive to Aldi and Lidl’s near me, sainsburys is walkable. I’ll just have to drive, or as like today, at my art class the Lidl is on my bus ride back, can’t park at art class.

The Lidl app.
10% discount on next shop when you spend £250 in a month
The freebies and items on 15% discount
Lidl bakery is good
Lidl Greek week, the spanicoitta is amazing
Their own brand sauces
Cien face creams and serums

Tbh everything really !

I love Lidl and Aldi and only shop elsewhere for
Kambucha, Twinings hot chocolate, tofu and caffeine hair shampoo.

lidl - the frozen pastel de nata are gorgeous and their full fat cottage cheese is brilliant (thick, not watery)

I shop at Aldi every week and am trying to think by aisle! I’ve never really had anything I didn’t like

Aldi - moser roth chocolate bars, the vintage cheddar cheese, stone baked pizzas, freeze dried strawberries (I love them on cereal), 100% peanut butter, high fruit content jams, whipped cream cheese, specially selected sausages, specially selected prawn cocktail, Greek yoghurt, McDonald’s dupe hash browns, frozen skin on fries, lemon curd filled buns, good bread selection, fruit and fibre cereal, the GU dupes

I love Lidl - would hate not to have ours. It doesn't sell/isn't the best for everything; but then no single shop is.

I agree on the Lidl app - always make sure you fire it up before you go to pay, as you not only get the 15% offers on stuff you regularly buy (which have to be activated first), but there's something extremely satisfying about being told you can grab a bag of veg, a pack of tea/coffee, a bar of chocolate or a doughnut completely free.

I once got a coupon for a free block of their Valley Spire Cheddar, which I had and we all liked it much better than the normal (dearer) own-brand Cheddar from Asda or Morrison's that we used to buy, so we always buy that now - so I guess we both won!

Also their rolls of 20 bin bags are big and very strong (way better even than Aldi's equivalent); and now Fairy have seriously downgraded their washing up liquid, we buy Lidl's own, which is much cheaper and just as good as Fairy used to be.
