Hello- I’ve got 2 preteens we seem to always have nits. It’s driving me crazy. The kids and my husband have short hair but I have long thick hair. I literally cannot even do one small pass with a bit comb in my hair it gets all tangled. WHAT CAN I DO???? I’m at the point where I am wet combing with conditioner the kids heads every week to keep
tgwk at bay but what about me? I use a hairdryer and straighteners which I think keeps the relatively in check but doesn’t eradicate. I sometimes use Hedrin but can’t comb. Help…. Me…..

It's a nightmare but you need to get a de-tangling brush that you keep separate and clean frequently. Wash and condition your hair. Brush through with de tangling brush and then with nit comb. It takes ages.

Use Nitwits headlice treatment. It doesn’t need combed so works well on coarse, curly or Afro hair.

I brush my hair before going in the shower, get hair wet. I use loads of conditioner before shampooing, comb through with a wide tooth comb and then move onto the nit comb in small sections. Then after this o wash it normally to get rid of the extreme amounts of conditioner!

My two kids have hqd
nits since December, have spent an absolute fortune on every type, it takes hours and hours then a week later bam they are back. Eldest won’t keep her hair up and is friends with girl who we suspect they are coming from. I’m so drained with it all.
its exhausting. Schools do
absolutely nothing to help. I literally just have to pin and clasp eldest hair little bits at a
time and run the comb thru I stand at bathroom sink and flush the comb under tap.
i get the round metal combs they work
the best for
us. Sorry but it’s a long process. Plus make sure u are changing bedding etc all the time
too.

Have you tried the Nitty Gritty comb?

Thank you.
when I say I can’t comb it with a bit comb- I can’t comb it with a bit comb. Certainly not a nitty gritty comb

I could just about do it on my hair if I were another person.
I just can’t do it on myself

The thing with nits is that is very all-or-nothing. If you are not completely clearing them from your own hair each time, then you will be passing them back on to your children, and the cycle begins again. As pp suggested, try the lotions that don’t require combing, or stand in the shower while you do it, and use one of the conditioner / shower brushes to get all of the tangles out of your hair, then do it with the nit comb. What is stopping you from using the nit comb on your own hair? Maybe you should have an inch or two cut off if it is too heat damaged in the end sections to get a comb through.

It’s a nightmare. I’m a primary school teacher and I’ve never known it as bad as this year. Our hands are tied though. At my school we can’t tell individual parents or send out a group message or letter so the kids keep giving them to one another. I’ve caught them for the first time in years and it’s such a pain going through it every day. My hair and scalp are in tatters from the constant nit combing.

I have mixed race hair but I still understand that’s it’s only the removal of lice and eggs that well.. removes them 🤷🏽‍♀️ any time I’ve treated lice they come out alive despite the treatment promising to smother them and even stayed alive 12 hours later when I forgot to clean the brush before work. Lice are strong and very evolved. there’s no short cuts

@ClassicStripe why can't you tell parents? Especially a general letter that they seem to be doing the rounds?

Nitwits has worked for my family whenever needed. No combing.

Maybe you’re just not applying/using the lotions correctly.
