Cosy Coupe at 4 years old? Is it too old?

Hi everyone,

My son is almost 4 and he’s been obsessed with the little tikes cosy car ever since he’s since one at his stay and play group. I didn’t have the space to get him one back then, but we moved somewhere with a garden and I really want to buy him one for his fourth birthday.

Is he too old for it? He’s average height. Is it still worth buying? Or should I look for an alternative? He’s autistic and it’s very rare for him to have this level of interest in any toy besides his wooden train, so I think it could be good.

Thank you

I don’t think it’s too old. We didn’t have one but I remember taking my daughter to a fun day when she was 5 and they had them there and she loved playing in one. And she was very tall for 5 - more like average 7 year old. And at least your son will now be able to use it himself without you having to push him around in it like you have to when they’re too little to make it move with their own feet!

We bought one for ds1 when he was 18 months. We kept it until it fell apart when ds1 was about 13 and my youngest was 5.

I think that if it’s something he would get joy from, then it doesn’t matter whether anyone thinks he’s too old for it. It makes him happy, and that’s the best that anyone can hope for from a birthday gift.

Thinking back to my nephew’s, and his mum’s attempt to prove she could still fit in one, I think they’re quite roomy as far as height goes. I definitely think you should get it, and I hope you get as much pleasure from seeing his little face light up, as he will have from receiving it.

There were some at a party we went to last year and my then 5 year old boy fitted in fine. If memory serves he'd have been around 118cm at the time if that helps.

This is the sort of thing that people pass on when they're grown out of as they are big to store so don't buy one new! You will almost certainly be able to get one from Facebook marketplace or Gumtree or something. Then if he does outgrow it soon, you haven't lost much.

My granddaughter is 5 and tried to get into hers the other day but is now too tall - she was gutted. Not sure exactly how tall she is but she is tall for her age. If you can get one second hand it might still be worth it. Things bought for grandparents’ houses are often in particularly good condition. I was looking forward to getting rid of ours tbh as it takes up a lot of space but DIL has just found out she is expecting another girl 😁

If you're worried about how long you'll get from it, there are usually lots on Facebook marketplace in good condition. We did that with our son, as we didnt know it it was a passing fad or if he'd get too big to use it.

Aw I would get one for him even if he only gets a year out of it- if he loves them that much 🥰 maybe try Marketplace? You'd probably pick one up tor a tenner and the best thing is that it'll already be assembled. We have one and both our 2 & 4 year olds love it.
