Do you love your home? I do. 😊

I really do love my home. After being in a very old house with constant issues and mould etc moving into our new build was the best thing we ever did.

MN tends to be quite snobby about new builds. But I watched mine being built & I love that it was brand new when I moved in.

Not really. Having said that it gives us the room we need, we're in a safe area, neighbours are ok and in the better part of the area with easy access to great facilities on foot and plenty of local country walks.

wellfuckadoodledoo · 01/04/2026 10:58

Yes, I do. I didn’t when we bought it, but it ticked all our boxes and was within budget, so we bought it. Since then we’ve done a bit of work on it and made it our own, and also it’s been the place where we raised our babies, so it’s very special.

But with a teen and a tween, it really is too small now, and so we are rather reluctantly on the market. I hope the next owner, whoever they may be, is as happy here as we have been.

A couple in our street put theirs on the market and they got so many offers they decided to stay put!

No, unfairly perhaps, I dislike my home! Its nice enough but too much for me to manage on my own. Its too far from my family and my job. Its starting to need maintenance since a re-furb a few years ago and I dont have the money to do it up/decorate again. Also I have more sad memories associated with it than happy ones. Can't afford to move though so c'est la vie!

FancyCatSlave · 01/04/2026 11:14

Yes and I am distraught that it has to be sold.

I know the next house is going to be hideous and it is so sad (selling dream home due to divorce).

It’s a picture perfect thatched cottage in a glorious location. Gutted.

So sorry 😞

In what way?

I think we bought the wrong house and there was another I preferred that was slightly more. Moving day was a total nightmare and put me off. We moved to downsize and it’s too small, there are things I really don’t like and a lot of other things have gone wrong since we moved.

The location is a bit better and DH likes it. We could do with downsizing again though, because everything has increased in price except the amount of money coming in, but the market is stagnant and DH wouldn’t move.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 01/04/2026 11:51

I like my house. It has a very practical layout for me, and I have very nice views! It would, however, be nice if I had a sudden windfall to finish fixing it up, and then it could be lovely <eyes up the heap of DIY projects waiting to be done...>

frozendaisy · 01/04/2026 12:48

The building? No it’s just a house.
The people in it that make it home - more than life itself.

That sounds like a nightmare.

I agree with that. However we’re still in our first house we bought in 1987 and part of the reason I love it is the memories in every room.

It’s not a nightmare, but it isn’t my ideal. Our last house was, but it was in the wrong place and it was also too big for two of us. No point in spending more on maintenance and running costs than you have to.

Iloveeverycat · 01/04/2026 14:24

Not at the moment everything is 25 years old and we can not afford to improve it.

ObligateAerobe · 01/04/2026 14:38

I like it well enough. It's big enough and well laid out for how we live in it. I've spent a lot of time and effort on the garden and we've done a lot of work on it over the years. There are a lot of memories here, good and bad. I'd like to move to a different location, as we share a private road with an awkward neighbour. Not a complete nightmare, but enough to put a fly in the ointment. We're not in a position to move at the moment though, so we'll stay put and I'll live with the annoyance.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 01/04/2026 14:44

No. Its just a warm dry clean place with all my stuff in it. I've never really felt any kind of emotion towards anywhere I've lived.

The people (and occasionally the cat) within it however, yes I very much do.
