Does it mean my husband was made redundant?

Hi everyone,

My husband works and I’m a carer, we get UC. This month, my husband’s salary wasn’t reported, sometimes when there’s a mistake and the assessment periods overlap, the statement still says my husband got £0.

But the new statement doesn’t mention his job at all.

We also got a notification that he needed to attend a phone interview with UC.

His To-Do list says:

Confirm previous earnings from work
To make sure you get the right amount, you'll need to tell us how much you were paid while you were working.”

and when I googled it, it said that it’s the message UC sends when someone’s no longer in employment.

My husband has had some problems at work lately, but nothing was mentioned to him. He has his yearly career performance form to fill but other than that, no meetings scheduled with his manager or anything like that.

thank you

The only person who can answer your question is your DH. I'm pretty sure though, that he hasn't been at work for some reason and therefore hasn't been paid and DWP have been notified of this by someone

Is he going into work? If he was redundant he would be at home.

InfoSecInTheCity · 31/03/2026 14:41

His work would have had to tell him and go through a formal process to make him redundant. He needs to get in touch with his work HR and ask why his earnings haven’t been reported through HMRC.

In most situations he would be. But it’s not unheard of for someone to carry on as if they are going to work after being sacked (pretending).

Either his work have randomly made a huge PAYE error or he hasn’t been working for a while.

Indeed, hence why I asked the question. Could be sitting on a park bench all day.

Or on a bench somewhere, suited and booted, eating his packed sandwiches.

Do you mean "has my husband lost his job and not told me?" Have you asked him?

My ex husband did this while I was on maternity leave so it does happen.
One of the reasons he’s an ex….

Yep we almost cross posted the same comment.

dizzydizzydizzy · 31/03/2026 15:09

Well it could just mean that, for whatever reason, the DWP doesn’t know whether he was paid or not.

TheZanyPinkSquid · 31/03/2026 15:28

Thank you for your replies.
It does look like UC got the information that my husband wasn’t in employment anymore. I hope it’s a just reporting issue

What does HE say??! Is he saying he’s still in employment?

stepmum86 · 31/03/2026 15:42

This happened to me because the work accountant hadn’t declared my earnings in time for some reason. In fact it’s happened twice. Most likely a mistake on his work’s side. UC get automatically alerted

tryandbepositive · 31/03/2026 15:47

Good luck, Op. none of this adds up so hopefully he can clarify asap but I’d be prepared for some awkward moments

OccasionalHope · 01/04/2026 10:37

Has your DH confirmed anything?
