Where do you get your books? Do you use the library?

During my childhood through to about age 35, I regularly used the library. When ds (now 20) was young, we used the library at least monthly. I haven't been in years. I'm 52 now, a voracious reader, have 2 huge overflowing bookshelves and for years have bought my books from Amazon/Waterstones Nothing beats receiving a lovely pristine new book through the door or browsing and buying in a bookshop. However, with the col I'm considering returning to the library again to save money. Does anyone here who reads use the library as opposed to buying books new?

I usually go to the library weekly. But it's a 2 minute walk from my house so is easy to access. Not sure I'd use it as regularly if I had to drive to get there.

I just collect books I like the look of, got 300 sat there to be read. Usually from charity shops (3 for £1), vinted if I want something specific , my local shop has a book shelf where you give a book & take a book and the free kindle books.

I use the library all the time. Also London Consortium so access to a huge array of books. Also use borrow box, libby etc for free audiobooks and magazines

Love going to the library. I have lived abroad in various non-English speaking countries and one of my favourite things to do when coming back home to the UK was heading to the library and choosing books to read. I really appreciated being able to do that. Now I that I live here permanently I go once a week.

I hardly ever buy new books. I read on kindle - but much more use the library. I put reminders in my phone calendar to avoid late fees!

Going to the library was a pleasure growing up. I used to everyone in the family's library card to get a HUGE pile of books.

These days I dont have an easily accessible library (and huge piles of books are so heavy to carry...).

But the miracle of borrowing library ebooks for my ereader, from the comfort of my sofa, is marvellous. Im a bit sorry to not be going to a library in person, because I think they are so important, but using an ereader is now the most comfortable way for me to read.

I read a lot.
I mostly use BorrowBox, followed by the library. Then kindle. Then second hand books from book swaps at holiday resorts or buying from charity shops/national trust bookshops/stands in supermarket/doctor’s surgery

Thank you @Madcats for your post. Such a shame I can't get books on my kindle! My library doesn't have borrow box either, just libby which has a very small amount of books. I don't like to read on my phone.

I do. Where I live (Birmingham) the libraries were at massive risk of being closed down. I used them before that and actually my book club was a library book club to start off with. Now the risk has gone I make a point of having a least one book out at any one time.

I’ve just added the Press reader app to my
phone and now I’m glued reading a myriad of magazines and newspapers. I vaguely knew that you could access them through the library but hadn’t ever actually looked at it. Tons of interesting stuff that I would never fork out for weekly.
