Why do so many hairdressers not publish price lists online?

Why is it so hard to find price lists for hairdressers? I want to get a trim and on a tight budget.
My recent usual salon has upped prices so I'm looking elsewhere but half of them don't have a price list available online.
I've searched on the local salons websites if they have them and their FB pages but no sign of their prices anywhere, why?
I'm only after a basic trim, nothing special.
Back around 20 years ago there was one nearby that used to be a fiver, happy days!

My hairdresser does ( I know this prob doesn’t help ) . We are in Kent if it does 😊

You could look for a salon on Fresha - they will
show pricing. Same with Treatwell.

Just ring round a few salons and ask. Confused

IDontHateRainbows · 30/03/2026 07:39

Treatwell is your friend

muddyford · 30/03/2026 07:47

Just ring a few. Mine hasn't got any online presence at all.

OhDear111 · 30/03/2026 07:56

Around here they do. Are you just looking at tiny ones? Widen your search of phone them.

BadSkiingMum · 30/03/2026 08:02

I realise that it doesn’t help you as a customer but I think it’s probably that they don’t want to be updating their website when the prices change. So they just have a static website that gives basic information about their services but doesn’t need regular updates.

GlovedhandsCecilia · 30/03/2026 08:04

Because they want to see your hair and how much if it you have before they price. "Long hair" is subjective. Lots of hair means more product.

Porcuine20 · 30/03/2026 08:26

Bring back Supercuts! I’m the same, on a tight budget and just after a trim. Barbers for men are so much more straightforward - for my son I can book online, it’s a fixed price (£13), in and out in 15 minutes and a great haircut. Last time I went to the hairdresser around the corner, I had to phone to make an appointment, they were running half an hour late on the day, prices were vague, it took 10 minutes for someone to dry trim the ends and they charged £35. I only get my hair trimmed twice a year for this reason.

Bjorkdidit · 30/03/2026 08:26

If you want a low cost haircut, your best bet is a small local salon that looks very basic, with low overheads and less of modern trappings like websites. Most of their customers will have been going for years and never considered looking up their hairdresser online.

If there's anything like that near you, best thing to do would be to go in and ask how much a trim will be and if you're happy with the price, make an appointment.

GlovedhandsCecilia · 30/03/2026 08:27

Or the other cheap option is a college that teaches hair and beauty.

swapsicles · 30/03/2026 08:53

I have been to the college before, it's a bargain but I'm kind of impatient and they are closed for two weeks 😂.
It'd just be nice to get an idea of pricing before I go rather than ring round them all tbh.
Super cuts is still around here, there's lots of pricing add ones but a basic dry cut is £25 and I'm not in a posh area at all.

Im finding this aswell...loads of mobile hairdressers advertising on Facebook but when you ask for a price list they want you to message them privately....why can they not be transparent.

Justmadesourkraut · 30/03/2026 09:41

We've just moved area, so I spent an hour on the phone. Like you, just wanted a basic trim. Got it down from £50 to £20, by going further out of town and avoiding salons with websites . . . Google is your friend for 'hairdressers near me' then go through the list, starting with those without websites

workingcocker · 30/03/2026 16:16

I find women’s cuts at barbers are often alot cheaper.

purplecorkheart · 30/03/2026 16:20

I attend someone who has their own salon but sometimes go to a nearby salon for the odd blow dry or cut as I can go on my lunch break. They have prices from on their website. Other than that none of the other salons have it on their website/social media.

BoarBrush · 30/03/2026 17:01

There's not even a price list at all in the salon I go to. Not listed on their fb or insta either.
