Anyone else's kids do bmx racing?

Discovered it a year ago when we took our bikes to the local track. It has been a godsend. My son doesn't enjoy school and being able to race on weekends, travel all over the UK (and further) and have a bunch of friends in ever corner, plus the much needed dopamine hit has worked wonders on his confidence. He has adhd and autism and whilst he loves sport, nothing has suited him until now. Football and rugby were awful, gymnastics was too structured for him, but bmx has just stuck! I do worry about how dangerous it is, he's cracked a helmet in a big crash and most national races seem to have a broken bone or two. Its bound to happen to us one day. But my gosh, he's so happy. Anyone up for some bmx chat?

It’s a great sport and like a lot of skills focused riding (mtb too) the kids that do it are great; humble and inclusive in my experience (to make sweeping generalisations)

The learning curve is hard and can be brutal, I raced for a bit in the 80s and yes you do have to eat some dirt.
But I wouldn’t change it for the world. Good luck to your son.

I find the brutal bit the hours of coaching and training, 3 incredible motos, smashing the semis then crashing out in the final because someone stacks it in front of you. I remember watching it in the Olympics and seeing them crash, thinking 'man, all that work for a 30 second race to stack it or come 4th. Ouch!' But, you're right, the kids are amazing as are the parents! Most are super chill.
