TW assaulted whilst in hospital

Reposting here as posted in mental health and only got one reply, posted this originally a month or so ago and got a reply with 3 answers which I’ve now lost.

I was in hospital with mental health issues (a normal hospital) with mental health issues and had bank mental health nurses coming to watch me. Whilst doing this I was physically attacked and then sexually assaulted by 2 nurses. I was then encouraged to report this to the police who looked into it but eventually dropped the case due to lack of evidence. I would recognise both nurses though. If anyone could give me advice I’d be very grateful.

Why is it a drip feed or I’m lying? The story is here in my posts. It’s not the easiest thing to write about.

Me that’s the problem? Bit confused by that. So you think it’s right that nurses can physically and sexually assault a patient?

Hi OP. I’ve been assaulted in a hospital (not psychiatric and I wasn’t even a patient!!). The hospital never does anything. They’ll tell you they take it seriously but they don’t.
I went all the way to court in the end but I won’t bore you with my story.
People always doubt stories about healthcare staff assaulting non-healthcare staff.
It’s a remote possibility that it will occur and truly shocking when it does. No-one wants to believe it happens.

If the police won’t prosecute then I’d leave it - but that’s easy for me to say because that’s what I wish I’d done in my situation- and try to heal.

The fact that people dismiss assault of this kind is why I’m never ever reporting anything ever again.

That’s really sad and disappointing to hear that. Sorry it happened to you.

I'm sorry this happened to you @Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain
Is it possible that they think that it didn't happen because you were psychotic?
Or that you were being restrained?

I'm not saying this was the case, but the staff may say that.

They'll definitely be able to trace bank staff. It's not true that they can't find out their names.

The police and manager of both wards believed me or so they seemed to do so. I may have been psychotic at the time but it was more anxiety and sleep deprivation.

I was restrained at one point after I’d been hit several times. The sexual assault happened after that after one nurse had left.

Please complain again to the hospitals. It should be investigated properly rather than dismissed.
Yes you may have been psychotic and your perceptions may be altered and you were restrained which may account for some of your bruising but your complaint should not be dismissed without a full investigation and the outcome relayed to you.
it is absolutely not unheard of for vulnerable patients to be physically and sexually assaulted by people who are in a position of trust.

I have no doubt that vulnerable people experience assaults from the staff that are supposed to support them. It's shameful.

What do you mean you find the scenario unlikely? Do you think I’m lying? I can assure you I am not lying.

I can confirm it's very likely.... I have been in the situation too. I'm 5ft and 7 stone and 4 men pinned me down. Bruises on the back of my knees, down my back and all down the back of my arms! There was no need for all that force at all.
I hope your doing ok OP ❤️

I am a registered nurse working within the NHS and this is shocking. If a patient complained of being assaulted by a member of staff, the person would be suspended immediately while investigations took place. This would be to protect both the patient and the staff member. It's horrifying to know that no action was taken and you MUST take this further. For the sake of all medical professionals who behave compassionately and care for their patients, rogue nurses/doctors/HCA must be identified and removed from their roles.

Was that in a restraint situation?
I was a mental health nurse working on acute mental health wards for years ,sometimes we did have to restrain patients in extreme circumstances, but we had training and
It sounds like extreme force was used if you were left bruised , as that shoukd never have happened.

Yes of course they'll say that. They'll say anything to cover themselves. I've been a victim of hospital staff too before but they just deny everything.

The main point the police made is they tried to find the nurses responsible (mental health bank nurses) but somehow could not find them.

That sounds ridiculous. Just because they're bank doesn't mean there's no record of them being on shift at the time. Surely the ward itself has this information and would be compelled to share it with police? I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's absolutely terrible.

They said it was but I was just sitting on the blue sofa thing with my headphones on, refusing to take them off as they're the only thing that can calm me when I get to that point

Sorry to return to this thread.

I’ve been having nightmares about this since I posted this.

I have got a draft email to send to the hospital where I was and the first psychiatric hospital I was in, before I was transferred to hospital. I cracked my ribs before I was admitted to the psychiatrist hospital, they only found out once I was admitted then I was sent to hospital for treatment. Rest and morphine mostly.

When I was in hospital the husband of a patient told my mum who was visiting me “it’s not your daughter’s fault she’s like this, the nurses (hospital staff) treat her badly. This was after my sexual and physical abuse.

I should see a therapist but who? A specialist one? I saw one counsellor last year for a session but I didn’t click with her and felt she wasn’t quite the right sort of support for me.

And now I’m here at 2.30am unable to sleep. 😢
