wtf just happened - TMI but help!

I know that this is TMI but I am genuinely slightly terrified.
I just masturbated, and immediately after I came I got the most blinding headache at the base of my head. Lasted about ten seconds and then disappeared.
This has never happened before. I am still lying here having not moved. I am by myself in my house.
I am in good health and feel OK now but that was scary. It really hurt! What the hell could it be and how do I make sure it never happens again?!

Right, I have zero medical training so this may be way off (and I suggest you consult a medical professional as soon as you can if you are concerned).

BUT

I experienced dramatic changes to orgasm when I was pregnant. Different to what you describe - I experienced strong contractions in my uterus. But it's was a sudden and very noticeable change, and passed off later in the pregnancy.

Is there any chance you could be pregnant, OP?

Is there any way that you sort of twisted or turned your body awkwardly and momentarily trapped a nerve?

shellyleppard · 29/03/2026 11:15

I used to get a headache post orgasm.....not very often but definitely noticeable

Sonolanona · 29/03/2026 12:43

It's a known thing... panic not. Apparently caused by sudden blood pressure rise (orgasm causes that) which dilates blood vessels in the head quickly.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/03/2026 12:49

Yes it’s a known thing.

EmeraldDreams73 · 29/03/2026 13:06

I've had this loads of times! It comes and goes (sorry 🤣) and can be many years between episodes. I've noticed it's more likely with a new partner or when dehydrated personally. I believe it's blood pressure related but it's horrible!

I get ice pick headachs a few seconds of sharp sharp pain like zaps then its gone.
Mine can hit at anytime.

Bathnotbarth · 29/03/2026 15:23

Thank you all. I have since Googled it and apparently, like you say, it is a known thing. Who knew (you, obviously!)?

It was scary though! I lay there for a while not moving, hoping that my head wouldn't explode, then gingerly got up and had a shower etc and everything has been normal since. But how very strange and not nice! Need to make sure it doesn't happen again. I wonder if it was dehydration. I had a couple of glasses of wine last night and hadn't drunk anything else.

God it happened again this morning. And this time I wasn't dehydrated. I think I may have to have the world's most embarrassing doctors appointment.

Shouldn’t think it’s serious, but what a way to go!
Sorry. 🌺🌺.

Ha! I have thought that myself. Wouldn't mind going that way to be honest. But preferably not for about another 60 years!

This happened to a friend of mine who was using an Hitachi Magic Wand but it was not correctly power adjusted from USA to UK and was sending out a small electric shock. Are you using a Hitachi with attachment?

I am not. Don't think it's an electric supply issue sadly!
