Doubt it. Auto system that counts down as soon as you drive in. Been caught like that myself. Cheaper to pay the extra time charge. I just paid the fine which was reduced for quick payment. Lesson learned.

What on earth were you doing in Lidl for 100 minutes? I know the aisle of plenty is fascinating and the decisions to make at the bakery counter but 1 hr 40 mins?

BewleyBear · 29/03/2026 09:26

I had this at Christmas when Lidl was extremely busy and till queues were long. I had done a huge shop. I sent a copy of my receipt to prove I’d been in the shop and asked for it to be cancelled. They agreed to drop the fine.

Were you in the shop?

Fluffypuppy1 · 29/03/2026 09:29

You may be ok. My local supermarket (not Lidl) unofficially gives an extra 15 mins past your parking time. This is to allow for the weird times when half the car park leave at the same time and it takes ages to exit.

Parkopedia are ATA registered, so they have to give you 10 minutes grace period. They might still issue a charge notice but if it's under 10 minutes over you can appeal and they should cancel it

see the "you were only just out of time" bit in the below:

https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/law-and-courts/parking-tickets/when-to-appeal-a-parking-ticket/

That said it might depend on how accurate you are with your timing and as another poster pointed out it's from the moment you enter until the moment you leave

When to appeal a parking ticket

When you should appeal a parking ticket in England and Wales – including if the signs were unclear or you were parked correctly.

The right for supermarkets & other private land owners to issue parking fines is legally dubious as they are not Council owned. Challenge their demand by sending them a letter saying this:
Please provide the legal basis for this demand, including the specific statute number & clause that relates to this fine”.
This will really throw them off, as the admin person will struggle to be able to provide you with any & it’ll be so tedious & above their pay grade, that they won’t bother pursuing you any further.

Thank you. Helpful.
Agree on accuracy.
Yes I was in shop.
Had sat in car prior to entering.
Due to major stomach surgery I have what I think is called reactive hypoglycemia and I was waiting for an episode to pass.
It comes on suddenly but does resolve with sugar

Maybe explain the situation - send some sort of proof of the operation. Having a major operation will affect your ability to function normally - both physically and mentally.
Might be worth contacting the store directly - have had to do this in the past with success.
Good luck!

The OP was 15 years ago for cancer , so not recent, but it means that I process food differently.
I have become very good to recognising signs and quite often can ward off an episode of I act quickly.
Good wishes much appreciated.😀
