Toilet rim blocks are a bigger evil than toilet brushes

I'm declaring that toilet rim blocks are a more filthy evil than the toilet brush - at least the toilet brush gets dunked in bleach during the toilet clean.

I never have a toilet rim block in our house but one of my work colleagues in our small work team the other week decided in her wisdom to put a toilet rim block in our office toilet. To me, the toilet rim block is literally just hanging out there under the toilet rim where all the germs like to mingle whilst getting splashed by whatever naturally goes down the toilet - it's already beginning to look grim after the first few days. Plus they get in the way of the bleach bottle aim under the rim - Yesterday as my turn to clean the loo before we all left for the weekend I had to sort of shuffle the rim block slightly around the rim with the bleach bottle nozzle in order to get the bleach where I wanted it behind where the rim block was positioned.

I'm hoping it's not my turn to clean the toilet when the rim block gets empty and needs binning when you inevitably have to pick the filthy thing out of the rim dripping all over the floor. Ideally it will be her who put the rim block in.

Toilet rim blocks are surely not worth all the faff and grimness just for a foamy flush....

Vile things chuck it out before it becomes a regular thing @Kittycatchunky

Toilet brushes 👍
Toilet blocks 👎

Although in the summer holidays with full time use by lazy ND teenage boys, I do put a cistern block into the toilet to try and stop it spawning new life forms between checks and reminders to go back and flush. No way would I have a plastic one hanging off the edge. 🤢

Those plastic ones will really bugger up your plumbing too if they get loose and accidentally get flushed down. I use the fresh disc gel things instead that gradually dissolve over time.

I thought they weren't recommended now, due to the risk of them falling down and causing a blockage? I vaguely recall the bloke who fitted my bathroom telling me that.

I don't want to be the one to touch it if I can avoid doing so ha.

I've always believed cistern blocks are not great for the longevity of the cistern

Yeah if this one gets replaced with another rim block then yeah I might suggest those sticky blob things. I know the ones you mean.

You don’t need either. Just squirt bleach round the rim and leave to do its work
